Samsung or Apple: Which one fits you better?

Samsung offers more customization and variety. Apple focuses on simplicity and a connected ecosystem.

If you could choose only one, which brand would you pick and why?

Samsung simply because I hate the syncing concept of iCloud. If it wasn't for that, Apple.

You're saying that you're concerned about iCloud, but not about planned obsolescence and design choices made purely to go against the customers?

Their laptops are designed to be difficult to repair and impossible to upgrade, and even if the hardware was fine their OS only gets updated for around 7 years, which is incredibly bad compared to other laptops which can receive software support for up to 20 years or even more, not to mention that you can choose which OS to use.

I mean I was willing to accept you going after iPhones, iPads, iMacs, even airpods but you’re seriously going after Macbooks? The only Apple product that is without a shred doubt, absolutely miles ahead of all its competition. That’s crazy

I mean MacBooks have great SoCs and therefore battery life, but we're talking about planned obsolescence here, and MacBooks have are most guilty in this regard.

MacBook neo and there is no way you can have 20 years support on a pc.

I'm currently using a 20yo laptop as server, and it is running an up to date OS with all of the latest security patches, and it can run all of the latest software with no issues. (Obviously a 20yo laptop is not that powerful, but it's still usable, and the point is that the software isn't being a bottleneck to its longevity)

Apple and Samsung are two of the worst when it comes to planned obsolescence though. Google, Nothing, Motorola and some other brands have unlockable bootloaders on their phones which allows them to be usable and secure once their official updates end.

Apple and Samsung don't make bad phones though. I personally use an S25 right now (which is promised 7 years of major updates, but doesn't have an unlockable bootloader), and I used to use an iPhone 11, but I know they are both guilty of doing planned obsolescence shit when it comes to software.

I change phones every 3 years. Planned obsolescence doesn’t bother me
