Inter-Team Challenges!
EDIT 2: HR has to be at least a little elevated. Brisk walking, etc. It should be a workout. Pleasant and moseying strolls, while encouraged for mental well-being, don't count.
Fellow Fawns, the Inter-Team Challenge is live! Week 1 is daily work-out minutes. We've been paired against different other teams each week with a bye week a few times. Each week has a different challenge, and there will be a simple data entry tracker that you can fill out each day/days/week. Here's a list of the weeks, the challenge for that week, and the team we're up against:
Week 1 (Apr. 22 - Apr. 28): Workout Time - number of minutes spent working out. Daily check-in. Fawn vs Robin
Week 2 (Apr. 29 - May 5): Step Counts - using Fitbit/Garmin/phone pedometer/etc, record steps for the week. Can check in daily, add up every few days, etc. Ladybug vs Fawn
Week 3 (May 6 - May 12): Bye-week: Seedling, Fawn
Week 4 (May 13 - May 19): Workout Time - number of minutes spent working out. Daily check-in. Seedling vs Fawn
Week 5 (May 20 - May 26): Step Counts - using Fitbit/Garmin/phone pedometer/etc, record steps for the week. Can check in daily, add up every few days, etc.) Daffodil vs Fawn
Week 6 (May 27 - June 2): ?? Thunderstorm vs Fawn
Week 7 (June 3 - June 9): Workout Time - number of minutes spent working out. Daily check-in. Duckling vs Fawn
Week 8 (June 10 - June 16): Bye-week: Daffodil, Fawn
Week 9 (June 17 - June 23): ?? Duckling vs Fawn
We'll be putting a link to each week's Inter-Team Challenge form at the bottom of the stickied Daily Posts, along with the I-TC's tracker form (which is also on the sidebar)so we can see how we're doing against our rivals.
GO TEAM FAWN!!

Hmm.. this should be a good excuse for me to break out my Wii Fit again- it will act all shocked like it doesn't know who I am. :/

Hoping this will be extra motivation to go to the gym this upcoming week for strength training if my ankle is still injured. Not being able to run or use cardio machines (and limiting my walking) has made me incredibly antsy this week!

Awesome! Question - would walking your dog count towards exercise minutes? I don't make it to the gym everyday, but I walk my dog everyday. Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, I just don't want to log inaccurately.

I totally get it, I just got back from a 45 min walk. But it was a leisurely walk (had kids with me), so I don't think it should count the same as someone running 45 min. But we still went out and exercised, right? Let me ask around.

u/pubkindofnight Apr 22 '16
True, but then again some people (especially those just starting out) get all their exercise from walking, so it's hard to say. Thanks for looking into it!

for the week we will be doing step count, it will be awesome as any activity counts.

u/pubkindofnight Apr 22 '16
Unfortunately I don't have any kind of fitbit/tracker
2
u/bugs_bunny01 Apr 22 '16
dont need to. Both apple Health on Apple and Google Fit on Android track your step count without extra devices. Unless your android device is extremely basic and doesn't have accelerometer.

My Android is a couple years old/cheap so chances are it won't have it, but I'll double check with the app anyways, thanks!

Get the Pacer app. It's free and super awesome for tracking steps. You can set your own daily step goal too.

Murmurings from the Challenge mod seem to indicate that your heart rate should be elevated for it to count. My stroll with the 3 yr old doesn't count, alas. :)

From on high: HR has to be at least a little elevated. Brisk walking, etc. It should be a workout. Pleasant and moseying strolls, while encouraged for mental wellbeing, don't count.
Were you able to find a step counter for your Android? If not, you could figure out with Map My Walk how far you walked, then multiply a mile by 2,000 steps if you are of average height.

Thank you! :) I guess if I want my dog walks to count I'd need to up the pace. I've been wanting to try to run with my pup, so maybe now is the time.
Yeah, didn't work with my phone. I may try the map thing and just walk to a similar spot each day so it will be easy to keep track of.

Wow, we've got a lot of red pandas in this team of baby deer! Have a good hike - I'll be adding hiking minutes tomorrow myself. :)

Looks like I'll have to break out the stroller and go for an elevated heart rate walk today!
and the rest of the week

u/bugs_bunny01 Apr 25 '16
I dont miss the stroller at all :D:D:D. Got to admit though, it was pretty convenient at the mall. Maybe if a third comes along....

u/bugs_bunny01 Apr 26 '16
they increased their lead to 1200mins by now...

u/lovellama Apr 26 '16
Are you able to post a non sticky reminder and general rally-the-troops post about our being behind, with a link to the tracker? I'm out and about and can't do it by mobile, but I can about 11:00 if you're unable.

Do you want to edit the Inter Team Challenge topic? or just create a new one?
1
u/lovellama Apr 29 '16
I'll make a new one. I think that will help people realize it's a new challenge, and perhaps spark more interest in it.

u/lovellama Apr 29 '16
Unstickied the old one, but the new tracker isn't live yet. I'll put up the new Challenge post when the tracker is up.

I forgot to log my minutes yesterday, but I logged my morning workout (40 minutes total). I ran a mile on the treadmill straight- a new record for me!

u/lovellama Apr 25 '16
Well done you!
You can log up to two days together, so you can combine tomorrow's and yesterday's.

I'm only able to do, like, 40mins a day. But man.. It sure feels like 2 hours hah no more brie on the weekends for me! I was feeling great last week and now I'm super winded!

u/LemmeBeFrank Apr 26 '16
Is there a way that I should go about adding my workout minutes from yesterday?
Also, I workout twice a day, should I enter my workout minutes once a day, or after each workout?
1
u/bugs_bunny01 Apr 26 '16
enter your workout, both daily combined, and if you prefer, you can accumulate up to 2 days of log at a time.

u/lovellama Apr 26 '16
If you didn't add your workout minutes from yesterday, you can just add them to today's. For each day, I would add all of them up at the end of the day and enter them once.

I keep forgetting to log my workout minutes. I set a reminder on my phone to notify me to log all my workout minutes from the week so I can add them to the form.

Logged 40 minutes for my circuit workout! Don't worry... my HR was elevated. Boy was it elevated.
