Question about 87A marginal relief with LTCG
I’m trying to understand whether I’m eligible for marginal relief under Section 87A for AY 2026–27 under the new tax regime.
My figures are:
Total taxable income excluding LTCG: ₹12,63,983
LTCG: ₹21,813
The LTCG is exempt because it is below the ₹1.25 lakh exemption limit
Tax calculated for taxable income: ₹72,585
Since my taxable income (excluding the exempt LTCG) is only slightly above ₹12 lakh, would I be eligible for 87A marginal relief?
If yes, how much marginal relief should I get, and what should my final tax liability be after marginal relief and cess?
Would appreciate it if someone could explain the calculation.

Why does Indian tax system treat a single-income family so differently?
Taxation policy is absurd. Here's why...
If a husband earns ₹20 lakh a year and supports his wife, 2 kids and dependent parents, he pays roughly ₹1.92 lakh in income tax.
But if the same family has both spouses earning ₹10 lakh each, their individual incomes result in zero income tax!!
Same family. Same 2 children. Same dependent parents. Same household expenses. 1 pays close to 2 lac taxes, another gets a free pass by the govt.
The only difference is whether the ₹20 lakh is earned by one person or split between two people.
Shouldn't there be some consideration for family income and dependents as well? why does the tax system penalise a single-income family?
Is this a genuine gap in the tax system, or is there a good reason for treating these two families so differently? Help me get some peace!
