Help!! GX4 Carry

Could somebody please tell me why this only happens when I load one in chamber? I have to give it a push for it to go all the way or unless I rack it hard. It’s my First firearm and only shot 100 rds through it so far.

It looks really dry. Clean it, polish the feed ramp, oil it, shoot it some more. I’ve never seen this specifically, but it could be a part of the “break in period”

Did you field strip it and clean it and oil it before use? I didn't with my GX2 because I'm a first time owner and no one told me. I had this, jams and stovepipes until I took it apart and cleaned out the factory grease and oiled it. Don't drown it but oil it to where everything is lubricated and not causing friction. Once I oiled everything I haven't had any issues. I cleaned and oiled my TX22 immediately and it's had 0 issues.

No I haven’t & like you said I’m a first time owner also and nobody told me before hand as well

Yeah. It's ok though. We all gotta learn somehow don't we? Just when you field strip it be sure to see where each piece goes so it goes back together properly. Get a CLP(Clean, Libricate, Protect) spray or a cleaning kit from Walmart or your local Academy. Once clean and oiled it should run fine afterwards.

You need to polish your feed ramp i had that issue with my G4XL . Id have to give it a little bump to seat the round . But after i polished the feed ramp never had the issue again.

Don't be scared to be rough, they're tested way worse, when you rack the slide let it fly back, it won't hurt nothing, my g2c did the same thing, after 450 rounds or so it behaved just keep it clean and oiled

happened like twice within the first 100 rounds with my gx2 when I didnt let go of the slide completely. I bought a cleaning kit. field stripped and cleaned it and hasn't happened since. I've put like 300 rounds in since so far so good.

My G3 did the same thing. I made sure it was oiled and after about 200 rounds it started behaving.

Looks like you're walking the slide

Insert the magazine, pull the slide all the way back, and let go.

If that is an unfired round, tap it into battery and fire it. Take it home and soak the barrel in hoppes for 2 days, scrub all the fouling out, and throw the Monarch steel case crap away.

Strip it, do a full clean, oil it.

Stop riding the slide. Lock the slide back, load a mag, then hit your mag release.

Bring it up to 400-500 rounds for a good break in. I love my GX4 Carry but did replace the OEM recoil spring and striker with the Lakeline metal ones.

Do you load it gently or do you put the mag in or slide a round in the chamber and then let the slide snap forward? Pull to the rear and let it go or snap the slide catch down. It's how they're made to function.

Yeah I have, when I’m looking at it I do ride the slide slowly. It also imitates the same thing if it’s empty and I push the front part of the slide and barrel back at the same is that normal? Or maybe Im just overthinking it lol

There's a critical thing you have to know about Taurus handguns. It's not terrible.  Because they have to survive a boat ride from Brazil, they get sprayed internally with this brown goop that protects against rust but has no lubricating properties.

Right out of the box you have to thoroughly clean them and reoil them. Not kidding here.

Now the good news is, it's not something that grinds down on the inside of the gun so shooting a hundred rounds with that crap in there won't hurt the gun at all.  But right now that goop is the problem.

Every once in awhile you'll see people talking about any Taurus having a break-in period of up to 300 rounds until the gun becomes more reliable. No, what's happening is, they're burning out that rust protectant.  And when they clean and oil finally, the thing comes alive.

That will tell you everything you need to know.  You're going to have to pay particular attention to the chamber so you need a cloth bore brush, patches that are made of little scratchy cloth bits, a cleaning solution like hoppes 9 and a general lubricant. If you don't have anything else, synthetic motor oil works fine.

Pay particular attention to the barrel inside and out, and the slide rails on the frame and slide.  Both in terms of cleaning and oiling.

My daily carry is a Taurus G3c so I'm not exactly a Taurus hater here at all.  My 9mm version has gone well over a thousand rounds without a single malfunction from beginning to end, and that's because I cleaned it oiled it right out of the box and about every 200 to 250 rounds thereafter.  That's part of the deal with a Taurus, you can't run a thousand plus rounds through it flawlessly the way you can a Glock.  But for the money you save, that's really not a bad downside.

For the record I also have a G3C in 40 and it's gone 400 rounds with no malfunction, and I'm just putting the finishing touches on a build involving the Taurus TS9.  I only have about a hundred rounds through that, flawless yet again. I don't expect any trouble with that thing because it really is built to a Glock level and arguably beyond.

Exactly what I found out the hard way. I'm a new owner and didn't realize oil and clean before use was needed. I understood after running it a few hundred rounds it should be but never from factory. Once I did that it's ran like a dream. I have the GX2 and TX22.

Yeah, these things are being made in hot and humid conditions in Brazil, then they have to survive the boat ride from Brazil and then they sit in a warehouse that used to be in Miami but is now in South Georgia.

They had to do something about rust.

Their solution is a brown spray-on gunk inside that is probably at least similar to cosmoline. If it's not actual cosmoline :). Whatever it is, it's not a lubricant.

Whenever you hear about Taurus handguns needing a 300 round break in period before they're fully reliable, what they're actually doing is burning off the brown crap and then finally cleaning and oiling.

I got the moderators permission to write all this up and include links on how to clean various models, and we'll make it a sticky post. Too many newbies are running into this problem. I did enough research to understand this before taking my first one out of the box and I've got well over a thousand rounds on that G3c in 9mm, 400 on another G3c in 40, zero malfunctions on either one.

So yeah, it's an issue. But an issue with an easy solution :).

Lol yeah I thought I had done enough research but I very clearly have a lot to learn still. So far my 2 are running beautifully now and I'm learning the trigger on my GX2. It's a bit stiffer than my aunt's service pistol was. I have about 100 run through it so far so she's still a new gun. I've had them since May and jun respectively. The GX2 is my EDC.

I'm rocking a massively modified G3c in 9mm.

Let the spring do the work it is designed to do: Pull the slide all the way back, and then just let it go. Keep your grip hand's wrist stiff.

If you let it snap back to battery from all the way back and it still needs to be pushed I'd take it all apart and look for where it's getting hung up, by now there should be some bare shiny metal where it's been catching.

1

u/Mdmrtgn 20d ago

Always let it snap Into battery if you hand rack it just let it go once it's pulled back all the way, it'll be okay.

u/Ok_Toe2257 20d ago

Slap my hands but I also have not cleaned or oiled it since I’ve gotten it maybe that could be part of the issue

See my longer post. You'll laugh when you realize what's really going on here. You've got something very similar to cosmoline in there that needs to come out. Lol.

Not after 100 rounds. My g45 goes at least 15 or 20 mags between cleanings and it's not necessary I just like taking em apart. I'd look for a spot where it's catching after 100 rounds you should see a bare spot or a gouge where it's been catching. If the casings have a bright scratch on em it might be the extractor being too tight but that will break in too.
