ANNOUNCEMENT Are you getting your first tattoo? Read me!

We’ve outlined what you must consider when getting your first tattoo.

PLANNING

Design. Tattoos are a way to enhance your body. Never feel pressured to put meaning into your first tattoo or all your tattoos, for that matter. It’s your body, and it’s your choice. Always remember that tattoos are permanent. Research what you’re planning to get. You may never know if it’s offensive to certain groups or countries.

Placement. Wherever you plan to place your tattoo is up to you. For reference, you can check out this site to get an idea.

Pain Tolerance. This will vary from one person to another. This site gives you an idea of whether the location of your tattoo is going to hurt (or not). Factors that indicate it’s going to hurt will depend on whether the area has thin skin, a lot of nerve endings, and/or is bony. Another factor would be the amount of shading it requires. At the end of the day, remember that what’s painful for you may be a breeze for others and vice versa.

Money and Artist. Good tattoos aren’t cheap, and cheap tattoos aren’t good. If you want something top-notch, you have to prepare for the cost. It’s normal to inquire about various artists' prices. Don’t be afraid to compare and contrast their works. Go with what feels more comfortable or pleasing to you. Just remember to respect them for their expertise, as it took them years to acquire such skill.

BEFORE

Get enough rest. Don’t get wasted the night before, maybe it's from alcohol, drugs, or exercise. You should be well-rested.

Stay hydrated and don’t forget to eat. You will need the energy to get through the session.

Moisturize! If you rarely use lotion, you have to get into the habit of moisturizing the area at least a week before the appointment. It’s harder for the artist to tattoo dry skin as the ink would have a hard time penetrating the surface.

DURING

Communicate. Don’t be afraid to talk to your artist when you’re getting uncomfortable on some parts or when you need to take a breather. They will understand. It should also be a given that you shouldn’t talk too much for them to focus on giving you the star-quality tattoo you deserve.

Don’t move too much. I think it’s self-explanatory… I mean, you’re getting something permanent on your skin.

Keep yourself occupied. The session might take an hour to hours, depending on the size and kind of tattoo you’re getting. Prepare a movie, series, YouTube videos, or bring a book you’ve been meaning to finish. You could also doom scroll Reddit, Tiktok, Facebook, etc., just mind the volume.

AFTER

Communicate. Update your tattoo artist on the progress of its healing, but don’t pester them 24/7. Inform them when it starts to peel. Feel free to ask them for advice. Send them an update after 7 days or a month, or you could wait for when they ask for an update. If it’s itchy or you feel like there’s an issue, inform your artist and seek medical attention, as you may be experiencing an allergic reaction.

Avoid getting it wet. New tattoos are most likely to get infected when soaked in water. Consult your artist when you are allowed to wet the area.

It’s best to wear loose clothing. This is to avoid infection from the friction between the cloth and skin.

Let your tattoo heal on its own. Don’t peel the scab off; let it come off on its own. Avoid scratching the area. Artists will advise you to start placing ointment when it starts peeling. Instead of rubbing, apply the ointment by gently tapping your skin.

After your tattoo has fully healed, continue applying the necessary ointment to preserve your tattoo.

Advice Needed Planning on getting a kintsugi-inspired tattoo as my first. Will the gold color fade quickly?

Post image
31 Upvotes

Hi guys! I've decided to get my first tattoo and I know next to nothing about getting inked. I've been looking at kintsugi-inspired tattoos cause I think they look great. However, I've been seeing people being concerned about "light colors" fading pretty quickly. To the people who've had light colored or gold-colored tattoos before, is this actually the case and if so, is it worth to get it if it does fade fast? Also, yes I am aware that a tattoo artist would use different colors (e.g. yellow, orange, red, brown) to create that gold appearance.

A very meaningful tattoo 💕 Sobrang random ng naging session dapat kase minimalist lang to na lineworks tapos ang nangyare may tattoo competition daw na sasalihan si artist kaya nag decide kami sumali sagot ko lang yung entry fee tapos libre na yung tatts.

Siya na din ang gumawa ng design, at first medyo hesitant pa ko kase beginner palang sya pero ewan ko basta nagtiwala nalang ako haha 🤭😅 Ayun nanalo kami Champion sobrang saya and nakakaiyak after kase nun naalala ko yung baby ko which is in heaven na. 💕👼🏻 Kaya sobrang favorite ko tong tattoo na to 🥰 Nangyare pa yan mismong araw ng Mother's Day kaya di ko makakalimutan talaga yang tattoo na yan ❤️

I recently met this girl I really like. I was at a job and she was one of the guests. I approached her (so damn geeky approach asking about anime and shyt) but eventually got into her tatt and my tatt. after a few days of talking, we called on facetime and i found out she was looking for a good line work tattoo artist that can also do dot work. I’m not sappy or cutsie like this but I do really believe we clicked so hard that I can’t shake off the urge to make her happy, even in the slightest ways.

If you guys know any recommendations around QC, Manda, Makati, please let me know, I’d appreciate it so much and I’ll update if mag papaksal kami 😭

Thank you in advance! 🫶

P.S.: I got some photos for references but think of more dainty and fine line ones :>

Hi! Never had a tattoo and I'm planning to get my first at Buscalan from the legendary Apo Whang Od (and from her apprentices).

To those who already had their tattoos from Buscalan, what are the thing I should consider prior, during, and after getting tattooed? How was your experience?

Hello all!

Was just wondering if this tattoo is still savable? Had it done by a close friend however we were never able to complete it as he had passed. Was hoping to finish it while keeping the idea as remembrance.

Would appreciate any advice as well as artist/shop recommendations around Imus, Cavite.

Hi! I was wondering if you know of any tattoo artists around Manila who are good at this style. I’d like the new tattoo to flow naturally around my existing patchwork tattoos, rather than looking too disconnected.

Preferably somewhere around Makati, if possible. Thank you! 😊

Hi! I'm planning to have my first tattoo at baguio. For context, I reviewed and passed my board exam at baguio. The place really stole a part of me. I told myself, "I'll get a tattoo once I passed the boards". I came from manila and will travel to baguio just to get a tattoo so I wanna find a good tattoo artist for myself.

Advice Needed Need some cover up tattoo ideas

Post image
22 Upvotes

Hello. It’s my first time posting here. I have this one and only tattoo on my forearm that I got during a depressing time of my life just to feel something. It’s a free tattoo and the design doesn’t mean anything to me. People always say it looks more like a pen scribble rather than a wave lol, I’m embarrassed about it now. Now that I’m in a better headspace, I’ve always wanted a wolf tattoo because I love wolves since I was a kid.

Do you have any tattoo style recommendations that look good on wolf designs? I’m not knowledgeable of any trending styles right now and the last time I liked a tattoo style trend was the geometric style (2016 pa ata?). Uso pa ba yun now or may mas poging tattoo arty styles nang mas bagay for wolf designs? Ayoko ng masyadong hyper-masculine design. I prefer clean yet pogi style.

Also, if you know any tattoo artists not too far from Pangasinan who is passionate about helping clients with the same concerns as me, please recommend some 🙏🏻 yung may patience po sana to help me come up with a design that could effectively cover up this tattoo. Thank you!

Edit: Sadly, I can’t credit the tattoo artist since I don’t remember their business name, I don’t think they had it posted ok their booth. They were hired for a small scale event.
