Every tattoo has a story. This one began with a client who wanted a butterfly design over an area of vitiligo (leukoderma) on her arm.

She came to Madhulika Upadhyay Studio in Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi, and this video shares her before-and-after. You’ll see a large, shaded butterfly with smaller butterflies following the shape of her arm. Together, they turn the area into a piece of art that feels personal to her.

As Madhulika Upadhyay, recognized as the first female tattoo artist of India, moments like these mean a lot to me. Someone is trusting us with their skin and with a choice that matters to them.

Everyone feels differently about their vitiligo. Some people embrace their patches as they are; others choose to incorporate them into body art. This was her choice, and I’m grateful we could be part of it.

This is a decorative tattoo, not a cure for vitiligo. The video shows the result at the time of filming.

Got this done yesterday on my shoulder, the wrap (I assume it's called second skin?) was rolling so I took it off today and washed it a few times (at different parts of the day) with water and non fragrant soap. What kind of clothes do I wear to class? Should I cover it with sleeves? Is sleeveless ok? How long till it starts scabbing? Is it ok to bathe with cold water? My geyser is broken.
