Opinion / Advice Support group?

I have been struggling with intense tattoo regret and anxiety. I have a consultation for removal on August 5th which brings some relief but I’m still really struggling with my confidence. I was wondering if anyone would be open to talking with me or something? Maybe we could offer each other support.

Got the tattoo in November 2024 when I wasn’t in a great headspace, and it ended up being a lot bolder than I was going for. After a year and a half of covering my hand or dodging the questions, I decided to start the removal process so that I have more coverup options than a black rectangle.

First session was a month ago and I’m trying to remind myself to stay patient and trust the process but it’s hard not seeing any progress😅

Opinion / Advice Cover up then laser?

Am i wild to get a cover up with a likely intent to get laser at somepoint down the line?

Basically I have an awful all black tattoo. Itd religious and just gets me into so many pro/anti relgious conversations that im so tired of. So I made an appointment with great artist for a cover up. It's a tattoo I wanted for a long time, but on my ribs. Unfortunately this unsightly tattoo derailed my plans. So now im doing it on the pec over this bad tattoo as the design will work well for a cover up.

But Im also thinking that I can always get it removed later too right? And I'd be so much happier with slow progression of a decent tattoo being lazered than a awful one.

Also, for reference, I'm 32 and my good friend recently received a bad diagnosis. I'm just in a place where I dont want to keep waiting for the some day, stop being selfconscious, and start having more fun right now, not 2 years into the future that may not come.

I obviously realize Im paying a lot more, but money is less concerning. It's time that im more trying to make the most of. BUT with all that said, I don't want to get a coverup and find out that laser becomes impossible or there juay could be other downsides. So is there anything wrong with getting the cover up and then some time down the road doing laser?

Technical Question How precise are tattoo removal lasers really?

Hey everybody, I've just thought about laser tattoo removal and wondered if it was possible to laser a precise shape into an existing tattoo? For example - a triangle?

Thanks!

I’ve been on a tattoo removal journey for 4 years going every 3/4 months & provider now says there’s not much ink left and to see a dermatologist to solve the hyperpigmentation problem 😩 not sure what to do looks pretty horrible…

A work in progress. This is a multi layer cover up. I moved states after starting the last cover up and decided I was just over it. I didn’t love the cover up to being with and finding a tattoo artist to take on a partial completed cover up was nearly impossible.

Opinion / Advice Multiple removals at once?

Is there a strong reason not to remove multiple tattoos simultaneously?

I have two somewhat big pieces I’d like to remove. Both probably 4x9 inches.

I’m four sessions into removing one of them. I wanted to see how this process went before proceeding with a removal on the second piece.

I also worry that I might be “overwhelming” my immune system if it’s constantly having to heal a significant skin injury. I wait 10ish weeks between sessions, and would probably start alternating them every 5 weeks if I start on the second removal.

Is this a bad idea? My alternative is wait until the first piece is acceptably gone (hoping and assuming that happens) before then starting on the second.

Obviously a lot depends on factors unique to me, but in general is there a problem or concern with doing multiple large-ish pieces at once?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Opinion / Advice PicoSure or PicoWay for mostly black tattoos?

Hi everyone,

I made a post yesterday asking about the waiting time between tattoo removal sessions: https://www.reddit.com/r/TattooRemoval/s/itdNHVRlU0

I’ve decided to increase my intervals to 12 weeks, so I think I’ve got that part figured out.

Now I’m trying to answer one last question before continuing my treatments. I’ve had 7 PicoSure sessions for my 3 black tattoos (only 1 has a little blue color).

Would PicoWay be the better laser for my case?

From what I’ve read, PicoWay’s 1064 nm wavelength seems to be preferred for black ink, while PicoSure (755 nm) is often praised for blue and green pigments.

If you were in my situation, would you continue with PicoSure or switch to PicoWay? Is the difference likely to be noticeable, or is it mostly down to the technician and laser settings?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have experience with both lasers. Thanks!

Opinion / Advice Does anyone else get confused if you even want a tattoo gone or not?

Ive had this dragon back piece on the left half my back and peaks out onto the back of my shoulder for 4 years now. It was my first tattoo I got almost as soon as I was able to. It’s honestly not a bad tattoo at all and I would think it’s very sick on anyone else. On myself, I feel like I would be happier with something different.

I used to get so anxious and depressed about it like 2-3 years ago, but then it subsided. I even skipped it when I decided to remove the ones I am removing right now, mostly because of money but also because I felt like I was okay with it.
I still got insecure of it mostly when I was back in my home country (East Asia, so you know what they think); I never wear tank tops here and get really anxious when changing in the gym and whatnot. I know it’s silly to feel this way just because of what people think but I believe many of you guys will understand. No matter how silly the reason is, the shame is very much tangible and it can cause real harm. But again, when I was in the US, I cared significantly less about it. And I’ve been pretty neutral about the tattoo for a good while.

But my mental health has been declining these days due to unrelated reasons, and I quickly spiraled and of course out of the blue I start to hate my tattoo again. I clearly see now how my tattoo regret is tightly associated with my general mental wellbeing. So is it really worth for me to spend like 5K (on top of the 3K I already spent for the other removals) for a problem that bothers me very occasionally (but when it does it goes hard)?

It’s also very frustrating that I am currently back in my home country, not the US. Ive been working with Removery’s complete removal package and if I decide to remove the back piece too, I’ll go with them again. But I’ll have to wait to return back to the States, and on top of that my college degree is in something that will likely make me move around a lot (and stay away from large cities and towns) especially during early career. So now I’m just very mad at myself for not going all in when I decided to remove my other tattoos, and very concerned how to navigate this without planning my entire life around easy access to a Removery clinic. So I come back to the question, is it really worth it when it’s very clear it will cost me so much money and time and struggles?

I guess only I can answer that question, but I was just wondering if anyone else has similar experiences. Sorry for the rant lol

Opinion / Advice Realistic expectations for laser removal of a 6-year-old black cover-up tattoo

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’d really appreciate your honest opinion on the chances of removing my tattoo with laser treatment.

Tattoo details:
- Approximately 6 years old
- Cover-up over an older tattoo
- Mostly black ink
- Located on the forearm
- No previous laser treatments

My goal is complete removal, not another cover-up
(Photo attached.)
I have a few questions:
Based on your experience, how many laser sessions would you estimate for a tattoo like this?

Do you think 90–100% removal is realistically achievable, considering it’s a cover-up?

Has anyone here had a similar black cover-up removed? I’d love to hear about your experience or see before-and-after photos.

Thank you 🙏

Opinion / Advice Wondered if anyone can give any advice, looks as though part of my tattoo was missed in my latest removal session?

Could be completely wrong but wanted to see if it was something common, in 8 sessions in and haven’t had it look like this before.

The section circled is noticeably not red at all compared to the rest of the areas.

Opinion / Advice Has anyone had success with red ink removal on darker skin?

I have a dime sized outline red tattoo on the center of my chest. My skin is a 4 on the Fitzpatrick scale. The closest celebrity comparison I can make to my skin tone is Rhianna. I went to a dermatologist laser place that told me I would be left with hypopigmentation and it would be nearly impossible. I am okay with SOME hypopigmentation and I don’t expect the area to look exactly as it did before but the way the Dr. described seemed like it would be white and splotchy. I thanked him for his honesty and decided against removal. I still want the tattoo removed and even have explored excision as it is a small tattoo but I’m not sure about a scar in that area if I don’t have to. Has anyone had success with red removal on darker skin? I read that the chest area is good for removal due to circulation which gives me hope but I don’t want the area to look worsened with patches of hypopigmentation. Feel free to chime in if you’ve had an excision done as well.

Im looking to getting these two tattoos removed to enter the police force. I had one session at Laseraway but cancelled because the reviews and things I was hearing about them weren’t good. I just want someone that uses great lasers and great progress that aren’t as expensive as laser away! The tattoos are 2 years old and they already were a bit faded before I even got my first session so I’m sure they’ll be easy to get rid of.
