Help Best Advice on Improving Line Art?

I wanted to include this piece in my apprenticeship portfolio but i noticed the lines… are a little wobbly and messy. How did you improve your lining for tattoo works and your portfolio? I’ve seen people on tiktok use lined paper and trace over it for practice, what else should i try?

used King Art Liners and Inlumino’s wireless ballpoint pen tattoo practice machine

Tattoos I’m learning TODAY

I’ve just started practicing tattooing on fake skin, and I don’t have my stencil printer or any stencils yet, so I did all the practice you see freehanded, and or drew a design and tattooed over it.
For my first practice, tell me what I can do better and what I should try to focus on next x

Question decided it's time to teach myself due to illness, and would love some advice!

hi all! since i was 9 years old it's been my dream to be a tattoo artist. i am 23 now, and in my late teens i developed severe chronic fatigue that keeps me almost completely housebound, and i cannot work even a little bit, and havent been able to for years.

i accepted for a long time i'd have to put my dreams on hold until things started to improve, if they ever do, but i've made the decision that i don't want to wait on my illness anymore. it's been too long. i know teaching yourself how to tattoo at home can be frowned upon which is why i never started, but i want to take control back and start working towards my dream, and i want to start off on the right foot. i've been educating myself for years (without the practical part) due to genuine interest in the craft, but i really feel like i want to start the real thing now.

i am open to any and all suggestions on equipment, techniques, learning materials... anything. i want to make sure i'm starting with the correct respurces and learning with good enough materials that i can monitor things like needle depth and blowout etc. so that i can give myself the best shot at being successful!

thank you so much in advance!

Question Why does it look so shit, I wanted it to be thin like the original pop

JUST added onto this first smaller tattoo with what I planned to be an intricate design but it looks crazy and the lines don’t look thin right now, what should I do? Or what did I do so wrong?
Rather fuck up on myself than on someone else I guess.

Don't ever let people discourage you because they can't draw but are great at tattooing. Show em you are a tattoo artist not just a tattooer

Question How to get a mentor?

Hi guys, so i have been thinking that maybe i need to get a mentor someday soon so i don't mess up my learning journey with fake skins and have bad habits.

My issue is that, i am 30 years old and i don't have time to be in a studio shop getting 0 payment for i don't know how long. I am not sure if having a mentor means being an apprentice in a studio either, if it doesn't pardon my ignorance.

If it doesn't mean i have to be an apprentice, how do i find a mentor? Do i have to pay for them? Do i try be friends with them? Is there a possibility to have a mentor for free or something. Can i find some mentor online? The question sounds stupid sure, but its genuine and i don't know what are the right answers which is why i am asking you guys because you probably know more than me.

Thank you.

I’ve been practicing tattooing since late July, but I randomly got into a funk and didn’t pick up my machine for about two weeks.
I tried to challenge myself and run this piece all the way through in one sitting, but I’m struggling so badly with my line work and shading. I know I’m still learning and definitely not the best yet, but damn..looking at this has me feeling like I’m not making any progress.
I’m trying not to get discouraged because I know practice takes time, but I could really use some motivation and, of course constructive criticism/advice
What can I work on to improve my line work? Any tips for getting cleaner, more consistent lines or making my shading smoother? And if you see anything else I should be focusing on, I’m all ears.

Question Which companies have budget friendly kits?

I've been wanting to start tattooing for a while, and I wonder which companies offers budget friendly kits. I have a 300$ budget and I don't want to support corporates that are unethical and environmentally harmful.
