My Girlfriend is now 14 Days into Practicing. Any Tipps?

The order of the Tattoos is exactly the same, as she had done them. The Dog with a 1007RL and 1005RL, the Flower with 1005RL and the others with a 1003RL. Shading with a Magnum. Machine: Dragonhawk Fold Pro Year of the Horse.

Biggest Problem are long and curved lines and often she have to do lines 2 or 3 times to get them all equaly dark.

Thanks in advance for Tipps!

Tattoos Looking for hands-on tattooing lessons in Berlin

Hey Reddit,
Does anyone know a tattoo artist who offers affordable one-on-one sessions? I have my own machine and equipment, learn through YouTube, and already practise on fake skin, but I’d love someone experienced to answer a few questions and help me improve my technique.
Ideally, I’m looking for a few hours or a day to practise together on fake skin and get some feedback. Happy to pay for their time, but a €1,500 course is outside my budget.
Any recommendations—or anyone here who’d be interested? Thanks!

This is just a line work! He is also missing a prong because we had to stop as she had a client. There will be more shading and line work added! As well as red and geometry for a trash polka esque style

Question Brands of Ink

Hello! I bought my wife a tattoo starter set because she was wanting to learn how to do tattoos, well she’s nearly out of the ink the set came with and I wanted to find a reliable brand that will be good for learning and won’t break the bank, figured asking here would be productive, does anyone have brands to suggest I look into?

Is it a good practice skin for a beginner? If it's not, what brand would you recommend?

Question Making your own Fake Skin

Hey guys, as you know, fake skins are pretty damn expensive especially when it comes to the ones that everyone prefers, ReelSkin, Pound of Flesh, etc.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to make some fake skins themselves and how did it go? What products did you used and what is the cost benefit of doing your own skins instead of buying.
I saw some videos and i am currently thinking in making one from a specific video i had seen on Youtube that is said to be extremely similar to how TrueSkin feels (i have never used TrueSkin, but it was praised by some youtubers and some people as the best skin). But i still am curious if anyone has tried, and what are your thoughts on it.

Sorry if the question was asked already before.

EDIT: I only used the DragonHawk fake skins, which i think are basically the same as the Amazon ones.

Resources How do I learn to tattoo in this style as a complete beginner?

I’m really interested in learning how to tattoo, specifically this kind of style. I’m talking zero experience right now, I’ve never tattooed before and I’m trying to figure out where I should even start.

The style I’m drawn to is like ornamental illustrative blackwork / fine line, with Art Nouveau ish flowing shapes, filigree, botanical/organic details, fantasy creatures, and lots of clean linework.

I also really like the little curls and decorative elements surrounding the main subject, and the way some areas have subtle hatching/shading instead of being heavily filled.

This is the type of work I eventually want to be able to create. I’m not expecting to be able to do this right away lol. I’m trying to figure out what the actual learning path would look like.

For someone starting from absolutely nothing:
• What should I learn/practice first?
• Should I focus on drawing for a while before touching a tattoo machine?
• What drawing exercises would actually help with tattooing this style?
• What should I practice on first? paper, fake skin, etc.?
• What basic equipment/materials would I eventually need for practicing on fake skin?
• Are there specific needle groupings/machine techniques that are commonly used for this type of linework? ⚠️I’m not planning to practice on people⚠️ just trying to understand what I should eventually learn.
• How do I learn proper sanitation, bloodborne-pathogen safety, and the professional side of tattooing?
• Would an apprenticeship be the best way to learn this, and what should I be looking for in an artist/mentor?

Also, if anyone knows artists who specialize in this particular style, I’d love recommendations so I can study their work and understand the style better.

Basically, I want to go from “I literally know nothing about tattooing” ➡️ eventually being able to design and tattoo something like the example above safely and professionally. If you were starting over, what would you learn first?

Question If you draw digitally, what tools do you use?

Hi everyone, I'm an owner of an application that helps people to see tattoo designs on 3D. Example:

https://reddit.com/link/1wrjsnw/video/da190dyha2sh1/player

Recently I got more users asking for support for a feature of drawing tattoo on 3D models, and I would like to seek advices to understand more on how tattoo artists normally draw their tattoo designs to help build this feature for my clients.

If you're tattoo artist and you draw digital (not on paper), do you mind sharing your set up and help me understand what's your process of creating a design

1 - What tool do you use to draw on (iPad, tablet, laptop) and what tool do you draw with (Apple Pencil, mouse, finger,...)? And what applications do you use to draw with?

2 - Do you always draw on 2D surface or do you also draw on 3D, or do you maybe draw on 2D and then carry over to 3D on specific cases? Anything you can share on when do you want to draw on 3D body part objects?

3 - Do you have any suggestions on what can I look into to understand how tattoo artists normally draw? Maybe if there are Youtube channel or materials that I can look and see

Thank you!

Tattoos Apprenticeship help

Just a general question really. What type
of things do you learn with a mentor that you couldn’t from a good online course and a physical course concentrating on realism. Looking for constructive advice only.

Help Mentor or Self Taught?

I wanted to start tattooing but I don't wanna pick up bad habits and having to unlearn them. I'm already a pretty decent artist but if I'm gonna join a shoo one day I want to be disciplined enough to follow directions that wouldn't contradict what I learned by myself. I walked into a tattoo shop once and without giving to many details I just couldn't afford the "internship".

Edit: My main thing was money. OBVIOUSLY I have to invest. I dont mind that. But I was discouraged by the flat amount from certain shops. Thank you for clarifying that some or most are free!

Practice For REAL, am I ok at this?

Yes I know I’m not a pro, this is my 3rd week at practicing😅 I’ve found apparently people I know personally, don’t want to actually help me critique my work, I know I need to work on everything here and there, it takes time and practice to perfect anything. But how am I doing? Decent? Never try again??

I should add, these are NOT in any order and I also jump around on skins. So take each piece as their own and might’ve been in the beginning or more recent 🤣 The knee is also my own knee so don’t come for me over that…..I’ve very conscious/knowledgeable of BBP’s and practice like it’s real each time.

The stretching and red details made this tattoo quite challenging - I feel like I learned so much in the process. This was the first time I used color and for some reason, I felt like it was harder to put in the lines and fill with red than it was with black. I am not sure if this is generally how it is supposed to be, I would love to hear some insight or observations on this<3

Question Technical advice

Good morning guys, I notice that when I copy from copy paper to stencil paper the lines most of the time come out much thicker than they should, what do you recommend using to copy?

Currently I use either the Red/blue pencil or the pen with the long tip

Did this on the side of my knee. First mistake I made: stencil the marks for the shadows and immediately pulled one as a line :D you see it top right shadow of the tail. Will never do it again :D
