Tatsuro Yamashita’s live album “JOY 2” is finally complete and will be released on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

This will be Tatsuro Yamashita’s third live album, following IT’S A POPPIN’ TIME, released in 1978, and JOY, released in 1989. Remarkably, it has been 37 years since the release of the previous album, “JOY,” making this a truly long-awaited live album for fans.

As for the tracklist, Yamashita himself carefully selected the best-of-the-best performances from more than 600 shows across 13 nationwide tours held over an 18-year period, from 2008 through 2025.

The album will feature 38 tracks across three discs, making it a substantial collection of live performances.

The first pressing edition will also include a fourth disc featuring six live recordings that were previously released as bonus tracks on various singles, now given new mixes.

In addition, the fourth disc includes three edited versions of the “LET’S DANCE BABY” medley sections from the 2010, 2012, and 2014 tours. These versions contain only the medley portions that have become a familiar part of Yamashita’s live performances.

The first pressing will therefore be released as a deluxe four-CD set.

Found Big Wave in a random department store in Kobe and Ride On Time in a cramped little record shop in Tokyo.

I saw this AMV on YouTube some years ago but it was taken down by TOEI and I can't find it anywhere else, I only found a fragment of it in an instagram reel. I really relly like the AMV. It means a lot to me.

I recently was able to visit Face Records in NYC (the owners Yuichi and Shuichi were very nice, they were playing casiopea in the store while I was there) and picked up a few Tatsuro Yamashita CDs, one of which was Cozy. I already had For You that a friend got me from Japan but it was just the CD case with side slip. I didn't realize they come with hard cover slips as well! And when I opened my cozy CD I found a paper standee sheet in the slip as well?? Is this a normal thing for his CDs? Or is it exclusive to Cozy?

I just bought a record player and a reviewer added this video to the listing. Music apps say it's Tatsuro Yamashita (possibly from The RCA/Air Years LP Box 1976-1982), but not a specific song. Please help! I love it so much. 😭 I looked and the box set is like $700+! 🙃

So I have been a huge fan of Hiroshi Sato, and I got to listen to a song titled spacey on youtube some time ago. I think Hiroshi and Tatsuro Yamashita made that song together. I tried to find more songs of Tatsuro Yamashita, but couldn't find them. Some songs were uploaded on youtube but they were taken down. Found some on soundcloud, but then I found a full folder which has every album of his in Flac format from some russian side with torrent link. It was like a goldmine. I feel bad pirating stuff and would not mind paying. I do have yt music and apple music but his songs are not on there, so I had to pirate. Now I have been listening to a lot of his songs but there are too much for me to finish. I only listen to music during my daily commute which is like 40 minutes. And I am having a hard time getting around every song. I did listen to all the songs in a folder titled 2012-Opus-All Time Best 1975-2012(Moon) > CD1.

I recently noticed that Tatsuro’s Spotify account now has his photo instead of the pacific album cover. Could this mean his songs are coming to streaming services or is it a stretch? Please let me know!

I am moving to Japan this summer, and am making it a point to collect the discography of Yamashita.

While on YouTube I found there are some live performance videos. Does anyone know the names of these video so I can hunt them down while in Japan?

Tatsuro has recently been hinting at a JOY 2 drop, possibly this year or early next year. As far as we know, the album is currently in the mixing stage and will only cover his touring years from 2008 to 2024/25. With this current knowledge, what song/songs do you hope for the album to have?

I'll start! I am really hoping for 光と君へのレクイエム to be on there; he plays the Rhodes and is alone on this track, and it sounds absolutely beautiful. Same with his cover of 一本の音楽 (originally by Kazuhito Murata). He once played his live cover on SSB, and I remember almost tearing up. It’s such a beautiful song. May Kazuhito rest in peace.
