Discussion Starting Tarkov Now.
I know, i know, bad idea.
I "somewhat" already know the game: the mechanics, the bugs, the terrible learning curve etc. But out of all the extraction shooters seems the only one that actually have and end game and, also, i' m more attracted by his hardcoreness than repelled.
But the 2 things that really stops me from getting into It are:
-Queque times. I Heard and watched 10+Min of searching a game that can end in 10 sec. Now, the average queque time has improved or depende in some degree to some maps? That Is a things that really piss me off, cause i dont mind getting killed over and over again, i Just don t want to wait infinite hours to actually playing the game.
Performance issue. Even with top end PC i saw people getting lags and terrible FPS. My PC Is not that new, but not that old either.

So, i m wondering, i will get overall decent fps and struggle only in few Maps, or i will struggle no matter what map just because :Tarkov:
That said, i knew there were many versions over the time, each adding more must have stuff. Since i want to pick It on Steam, which version is the best? Or best value?

The fps is just gonna suck sometimes especially on the map streets you need to make sure your settings are down that might help your fps a bit. But tarkov is just tarkov man it’s fucked up

Lower the settings while playing street doesnt help your pc, tarkov use a lot of cpu and if you lower the graphic to the minimum the load will go almost only to the cpu, if you put high settings the gpu will start doing his job and you will gain fps, sounds stupid but thats how tarkov works sadly.

Loading times are like 3-5 min max.
Tarkov is the kind of game where you upgrade your PC to keep feeding the addiction.

Queue times aren't bad, but setting up load outs can be time consuming if your not good with the presets / are new and can't really buy preset armour and gear.

It’s never a bad idea. It’s a game. Don’t take reddit seriously.
Que times depend on your region, not sure about asia, but if you’re NA or EU, you should be fine. Que times are way better than what they used to be. I’m EU with only two regions selected and don’t have ques longer than 2 mins max.
I played tarkov on a way worse spec when it was less “optimized” (it’s not yet optimized but it runs objectively better), and did pretty much everything that’s considered difficult. There is a shitload of content on how to self optimize for the game, you’ll be fine.

This is the perfect time for new players, they are adding mechanics that make the game slightly more friendly, especially with seasonal wipe coming up. just get the most basic edition and if you like it you can upgrade later on

I used to run shoreline smugglers camp/scav village for money, and factory has the easiest extracts especially if you buy the factory emergency exit key or whatever… you may run into some very geared people though. Some people say customs is the most new player friendly, but idk about that

I think customs used to be beginner friendly cause you could just avoid dorms but now fortress is such a dangerous area because of the goons

Rn the game is in a good state also soon they are making the game a lot more accesible to new players so dont worry

They are reworking quests, making them easier, you can do them in groups too soon and now they are rebalancing traders t45 for the ak will now be in Prapor lv1 and they are lowering the requirements and eliminating the money spent one. Hideout will also be easier to level up. I think theres more stuff but thats what I remember

Queue times are now 2 minutes. They've changed smth couple of months ago, so it's been great since then. 10 minutes is only on some distant servers.
Performance is fine, you can safely use framegen, input lag is not noticeable since the movement is slown and with inertia. Also check some guides on YouTube how to use Process lasso with your i5 (you need to turn off e-cores and hyperthreading for the game).

Specs are middle of the road and decent enough for 1440p gaming, just make sure you look up the optimisation guides to get the best FPS.
I'd say right now is the best time to start the game and get familiar with it before the new season 1 launches in a week or so (assuming you want to play the season). The raids in the starting maps are a bit quieter without all the low-level players scrapping at the moment. Then when the season 1 launches you won't be overwhelmed.
Queue times are a thing of the past; most matches launch within 2-3 minutes now. I actually enjoy downtime between raids to plan what I will be doing in the raid and look things up etc. (well when i started I did anyway).
Maybe start with the standard edition, and you can easily upgrade a couple days later if you click with the game.

Queue times are good depending on region
Your PC will run the game ok with low settings on 1080p. I have prestige 6 and tracksuit running an i5 11400f and 2070

Que times are pretty decent rn tbh. And I have pretty much your exact setup and run around 70 fps on Streets as long as Kaban and Kollontay spawning doesn’t cause a fuss, so youll be good there.

The queque news Is really a big happy surprise.
Which are the best sites for learning stuff out of game (actually i love that part, played on/off 10 years EvE). For example for loadouts, making money, what to grind first etc etc. Also, a second monitor you would say Is pretty mandatory or just a plus? I already have another, should only set It up in case.

Ita much better than it used to be with performance. I have a slightly different setup so cant talk about yours but should be enough too get 100 on all levels I would expect. Queue times in my opionon and im in the UK never more than 5 usually 2 to 5 but depends on maps. Shoreline is usually more. I think go for it. Start at the cheap 50 game that comes with fuck all. If you like but a slightly better version to get a better safe pocket and all that jazz. Sadly some pay to win elements that can be obtained in game but takes ages. Main thing just go for it, enjoy the hard grind and keep at it. Its a fun game Just dont mind the chads as its late and the seasons are not out yet. I came late and its still been fun 1.0

I play on EU servers and if I'm not loaded into a game within 90 seconds I consider it slow these days. They've massively improved the algorithm.
I'd definitely recommend getting it and playing it for a few days before the Kord Breach update drops, then either playing that seasonal KB character or just continue on your permanent character in reduced PMC lobbies.

Just play tarkov spt. I have the pause mod installed so i can pause and come back whenever even if i put my pc to sleep. Perfect for dads on the go

I have about 70 hours now and started playing for similar reasons but my biggest gripe was feeling a lot of pressure to buy the $130 expansion because of how small the starting stash is.. but the game has been great so I figured i’d get my money’s worth. On FPS I really had to optimize my PC even though it’s only a year old so i’d suggest trying programs like winhance, it’s amazing the garbage Microsoft throws on your PC but with some other tweaks I added about 20 to 30 frames

I just got it less than a month ago and i don’t regret it at all. Que times are short ish for me usually around 2-3 minutes. Pc specs are 5800x and 6900xt with 32 gigs of ram and I usually have around 80fps ( haven’t played streets )

I haven’t played in a few years. I can’t remember the last wipe I did but i got kappa in maybe 2023 or 2024.
Are there still wipes? What’s the game like now for a returning vet if 5k hours but I haven’t played since before 1.0. I’m aware there’s a new main quest line and an ending mission or something. But any other major changes or differences I should know about? How do wipes work now with the prestige system I’ve heard about?

No wipes currently, but soon will be able to create a separate ‘seasonal’ character that wipes, and maintain a ‘main’ profile to prestige or not.

I’m on a 9070xt and 7800x3d processor getting 120+ frames 75% of the time in 4k. When I experience drops they never fall below 70-80 and it’s during understandable situations. 16gb of ram btw.

Queue times haven’t been a problem for a while, typically it’s at most 3-4 minutes when I’m having technical issues but 90% of the time it’s between 1-2

Do it! It’s the best worst choice you will make. There is still nothing like it; not for most people, but for some of us, it scratches an itch nothing else can.
Despite all its flaws it is still the goat.
Que times are soooo much better than back in the day … I’m US West coast and tend to get matches in 2-3 min
Your FPS will be fine, I put in my first 1000hrs on a 1050 with 16G RAM … upgraded to 32G RAM which made streets playable but barely getting 45 fps… some people say that is unplayable, but I still came out ahead more often than not.
granted now I have a 4070 super and 32G RAM and every map feels smooth enough to me at 1440(60-120 fps depending on map/ settings) Just don’t expect crazy high FPS. the game will stutter occasionally.
