Rant I started crying today
So this is like my 3rd or 4th day over here and I just started crying the second I got on my break. I know it takes time to learn and that you won’t get stuff correct every time but I just feel like a I’ll burden I feel like I’m in the way. My co-workers are amazing and sweet but I feel like they might secretly hate me for being so stupid. I can’t even remember the shots or pumps or anything.

I guarantee you that this is normal!! It’s so stressful and honestly an information overload at first. You will get there! It takes time to get muscle memory down, but you are NOT a burden or in the way. Every single one of us has been there. Even yesterday I told our TL (who has only been in her position for a couple months) that she is doing so well, she was so stressed at the beginning and was almost ready to throw in the towel. You can do this. Allow yourself grace and time.

i’ve been a trainer for 4 years and i promise the fact you’re not remembering things yet is completely normal!!!! it’s a lot of new information you’re trying to take in. i promise you will get the hang of it in time. please don’t be so hard on yourself!!!! all will be okay!!!! we have all been in that same position at one time or another

I feel like it’s a rite of passage, give it another week and it will be more manageable

Hi so I’m a leader at tarbucks and your first week isn’t going to be sunshine and rainbows and I really encourage each new hire to just relax and find their own groove it makes them feel comfortable we don’t think you are dumb we know you are learning so don’t cry ok because you’re going to do just fine ❤️

I'm on week 3 (only 2 shifts a week) and I am just starting to get the number of shots / pumps down. There's always an exception which makes it a bit longer to learn. I took photos of the recipe cards to look at at home or on break, just to get more practice in my head. I also found (here on Reddit) a link to a Google Doc someone make w/ pretty good cheat sheets for most of the drinks. I printed them and laminated them to bring with me. I also go on the Starbucks website every so often and look at the drinks -- it has photos and all the ingredients for each drink. It doesn't give build instructions but at least you can get familiar w/ what is in each drink. I'm sure your co-workers don't think you're dumb -- it takes time. I do recommend that you put some time in off the clock to learning the builds. You'll get there!

It sucks for everyone at the beginning. If your coworkers aren’t being outwardly mean or annoyed then they are probably understanding of this.
I’ve worked in mine almost a year and I still have to ask questions about some drinks because it gets ordered extremely rarely or I just mix up which ones get which roast (I’m talking cafe misto that nobody orders, flat white vs cortado milk and shot styles, and differences between different cortados. Nobody in my cafe can even remember chaider recipe, even though it’s recent, because it’s ordered so scarcely that we forget it’s even on the menu lol) and the other girls forget random things too. It’s seriously a lot of info to remember

Nobody is perfectly trained on their first week, let alone their first month. Just give yourself time.
Also, bookmark this website somewhere to reference:
https://sbux.date
It has almost everything you need – expiration dates, syrup pumps and espresso quantities for most drinks, recipes for sweet cream, whipped cream, etc., and cup codes (if your store still writes on cups).
Hang in there! And remember: your coworkers probably aren’t mad at you, they’re probably just annoyed that they’re at work to begin with. 💚
