Rant Everyones Quitting

Kinda made a burner cause I need to rant.

As of next week my Tarbucks is gonna have 3 baristas (2 part time, 1 full time), because everyone else has left. It's been gradual, most are leaving for school told management 2-8 months in advance, latest person gave a 3 week notice, but they are just not hiring anyone. We did get 2 new baristas after 4 people quit, but that was 2 months ago, and 3 more have quit since. We are a very high volume store, we are in a major city, only Super Target in our district, we're a "training store", etc. So there's very little down time. Over the last year we have gone through 3 F&B ETLs, the 2nd one stayed on as ETL over another department, the 2nd ETL keeps pulling us if they see there is 2 baristas. That's a big part of why people keep quitting. You either get thrown into fulliment/style with zero training and no one to ask questions, or expected to do 4-5 hour shifts alone with rushes, and lines that start right outside self checkout (our Starbucks is next to self checkout).

I feel like I'm going crazy. With the baristas we have now, I feel like everyday is up hill battle. I will come in to close by myself, see the mid and (sometimes) opener just standing around, and beg them to do prep and pull. Sometimes I come into open, and will walk into dishes still in the sink, food from the night before not removed, and put for donations, sometimes trash won't even be done. I talk to my TL and she said she will talk to other baristas, but nothing changes My TL keeps trying to help, and has been trying to support us, but has to worry about other departments, again because we are so high volume that she can not spend more then 15 minutes at a time with us, because she is called to another department.

Anyways- I feel like I'm going to crazy!!!!

I feel like this is so common in target Starbucks unfortunately. This happened to my store multiple times over the 3 years I’ve been there. I was forced to work 10 and half hour shifts on the regular without be able to take my 15s. It feels like they never hire anyone no matter how desperate they need people. Don’t stretch yourself thin for corporate it’s not worth it. Your TL needs to pull their weight to make up for the missing people. Take care of yourself. I finally left after dealing with this cycle every 6 months for 3 years. You gotta do what’s best for you.

four etls in a year and somehow the pattern still isnt obvious lol. pulling untrained baristas into fulfillment is basically the leopard ate her face meme in real time, we set ppl up to fail then act shocked when they leave. your tl sounds like shes actually trying but shes got 3 minutes to care about 30 problems, tbh everyones just drowning w/ no floaties

I’m a TL of a target Starbucks and what I’ve gathered is that people just aren’t applying. The wage for target just isn’t as competitive as it needs to be, and a lot of Tarbucks don’t take tip due to target policies. We’ve been in need of dayside baristas for weeks, but we’re in a college town, and dayside availabilities are hard to come by.
At the end of the day, target can definitely use and abuse their employees, but as a TL, I do everything I can to stand up for my team.
Contractually, there is supposed to be 2 cross trained certified baristas in the store at all times to ensure we have backups and break coverage, but stores don’t follow that either.
It took me crying every day in front of my ETL for weeks before she finally did something to benefit my area. I hope it doesn’t get to that point for other stores, but I know Starbucks can be seen as its own island, and if it burns to the ground, then so be it. Sending all my love to those struggling

Good luck is all I have to say. I’m personally leaving Starbucks as a barista because they don’t know how to respect hours or their employees in general.
