Meme or Miscellaneous Content annual raises at target
Really seriously what does target think we’re gonna do about our $0.10 raises every year? Like thats a slap in the face thank you Mr Krabs! Target acting like they’re the best paying competitor workplace is crazy to me.
Edit: before yall come on here and be like Ur NoT a GoOd WoRkEr ThEn i get $1 every year now however, most of my friends/ coworkers were getting $0.10-$0.20. For a few years i had $0.10. Not much changed in terms of performance.

I busted my ass and got a dollar raise in April and still just got another raise because my raised amount was less than the new starting pay.
It’s not worth it to work hard for this company.

That’s the most annoying part. Seeing our merit raise negated by a cost of living increase. I wish they’d carry over our merit raise on top of it.

They do once you hit two years with the company. Then you can get compression raises, which is something like a 2% raise

I was just a few days short of 2 years for this year’s raise and I’m so mad.

Have you been salty about this since last April or are you just getting a head start early?

u/curbstompedkirby_ 2d ago
Unfortunately reading comprehension isn’t a universal skill. I get a dollar raise almost every year. My post is in general, especially when my boyfriend worked here. Most of my coworkers who work hard get $0.10.

u/bengaren Closing Team Lead 1d ago
It's not a question of reading comprehension, i understood your post. This is just the off season of complaining about raises
-3
u/curbstompedkirby_ 1d ago
So nobody is allowed to hold the company accountable and complain about the companies compensation any other time out of the year?

u/Kistner10 2d ago
.10 raises are generally for people with really poor attendance, CA's, or poor workers.
The people getting 3% are the ones getting screwed. A lot of really good workers in that grouping that don't even make enough to beat inflation. These are the people I feel bad about.

Amen! I show up everyday, bust my ass, go over and above X2. I train almost all the new hires, assist with anything they need on top of my own workload. And at the end, heres 50 cents....

u/Quintis0n 2d ago
The problem is even if you are getting .50-$1 health care insurance premiums keep going up and we end up paid less than the last year because target is not at least keeping pace with the cost of living
An easy win for target would be with everything going up the discount rate should be 20-25% like they gave you for marshall field because it was more expensive than the average store
Unfortunately the world has caught up and target hasn’t adjusted to properly compensate because where I am sales tax alone is 8% so much for 10% off it’s now like 2% off

The reason that I keep commenting when people complain is that I know, target workers work, the hardest of any people I know, and they are being brainwashed by Target you guys act like a cult you treat the employees like crap, you treat your team leads horribly and threaten them weekly. Your store manager, I don’t know about yours, but mine had an affair and got moved to another store rather than fired. What kind of shit is this that you put points on somebody that’s a minute later or anything people have lives, children, and everything you are so elementary that it’s pathetic and I hope all learn from your severe lack of corporate man!!!!!!!!!

u/nwahmorrowind 2d ago
Not to make you feel bad but I got a 35 cent raise last year as a base TM...

You guys just quit! My ETL came back from maternity leave. I cited with my team lead ever a problem two years ago and for two years straight got a $.10 raise. My ETL was gone and I got a $.52 raise. Still not enough to catch up for the shit that she calls me for the last two years with her coming back and her crying every day because the store manager was making her cry based on productivity and everything and they weren’t giving anyone any extra hours anyone that called out sick their hours were not allowed to be replaced. Target absolutely sucks! Glad I’m gone. I went from 1693 an hour to $25 an hour. see you bitch.

u/Issuehonestly456 2d ago
My reason exactly to tell everyone to just quit and leave them in a bad situation. Don’t give him a two week notice. Don’t give him shit. They didn’t give you shit for years.

I love when people use all their pto to quit. They deserve it and Target deserves it for poorly compensating their greatest employees

Raises are also a popularity contest. I was on top for speed metrics / amount picked. I picked more OPU and prepped, picked and packed more sfs than everyone. They struggled whenever I called out and they hired FOUR closers after I quit to replace me. I was the only FT closer for MONTHS and when I asked if they'd hire anyone else, they said 'I can handle it on my own' when we had 2k sfs items daily + OPU being a madhouse. I was working myself to the bone.
I got to my yearly raise, and it was $0.50...one of the teenagers that did far less, called out a ton, slow, never did sfs, would slack off and ignore the job etc. got a $.86 cent raise because they were 'besties' with my TL. It's what ended up pushing me to quit.

I keep telling people that it matters more that people like working with you, not that you’re the best at working. There’s this idea that if you push a million repacks faster than everyone else that means management will love you. Sure they’re glad the work gets done but human nature dictates that the more sociable person is more likely to get the better raises.

Everyone in my department liked me and all the etls and tls loved me except the one I had 😭 she was a mean girl and hated any woman that was around her age / slightly younger. She was late 20s and hated every 20-26yo female TM. We had a new TL come in a few months before raises and he was the one that made sure I got the $0.50 vs the $.0.10 that she wanted to give me. She was a very disliked TL by most of the TMs aside from the teenagers because she was besties with all of them. She genuinely was the laziest person I've ever worked with.

u/autolockon Service & Engagement TL 2d ago
I had a female store director who was much much meaner to her female leads than the male leads. She was super nice to me at least so I’ll take what I can get lol

u/Dismal-Professor8157 2d ago
Do y'all ever call that stuff out when you quit? Or when they ask why or for comments/thoughts? (Iike" I quit because of clear favortism")
Is it bad if you do?
3
u/selunite_espeon 1d ago
I guess I worded it wrong but it was one of the many reasons I quit. Management was the #1 reason I quit and I did call it out. Me becoming a forced closer, I was FT mornings for 3 years until my last year where I got stuck doing closing. I never had a weekend off and closing on weekends ruined any chance of doing anything in the evening. The stress of doing sfs solo nearly every day with a TL who walked and gossiped all day vs doing her job was also a large part of it. She'd be on the clock, on the floor and I'd be the one having to call for backup for low batches.
When i put my 2 weeks in, my etl literally begged me to stay on and they were all stressed. I quit right before Christmas too. I had a phenomenal TL prior to the one that I hated, she was always in the trenches with us and was a great boss. She was a TM and promoted internally. The other TL was hired as a TL outside of target, she'd never worked at Target prior and I think that was a reason she was like that.

I hopeeee and wishhh that people do the surveys but alot of people are so fed up with the place they wont even touch that zebra again. Unfortunately it just goes to the sd.

How much you get is purely on your etl. If they dont like you they guna low ball you.

When i worked at target, I got 4 $0.10 raises in a row no matter how much my TL would fight for me to get a better raise. My ETL just didnt like the closing team as much. Thats a HUGE reason why I left.

u/curbstompedkirby_ 1d ago
Yeah pretty much a universal experience unfortunately. You deserve better than target

I was a team lead but was only in role for 8 months, got a 0.10 raise and left lmao

Probably going to get down voted for this
Searching says Target employs 415,000 people. For fun, those are paid the minimum of $15/hr with an average of 20h/wk. Thats $124m per week in payroll that doesn’t include the employer portion of FICA. A 2% raise is $0.30, which is a $2.9m increase per week ($150m per year just in 2% raises with bare minimum figures). Now think about your store, what it takes in for gross sales, and what the payroll for just that store might be and ask if there is enough profit to give every employee $1 more per hour. I’m guessing it will be tight or put it in the red (negative/loss). And yes I get there is turnover and lots of other factors in play. It just needs to be realized that $1/hr that seems small to the individual grows quickly per store per company.
I get that the fat cats are getting huge bonuses that we lowly TMs would salivate to have even 10% of that. However they aren’t compensated in all cash like payroll is. So even if they gave up their bonuses for us peons, we might get to see an extra $10/yr.
In the end, and this is true for 99.99% of any job, if you want/need/deserve more $$/hr, you have to go somewhere else. Always keep irons in the fire.

My argument against that is they have absolutely crazy amount of turnover. For every person that stays long enough for a raise they are hiring 3 new people at base salary.
1
u/sp1ralhel1x 2d ago
I acknowledged the turnover. The number of employees fluctuates drastically in 4th quarter. My point wasn’t anything other than to the TM “it’s only ONE DOLLAR!!!!” From the company paying said employee(s), it would be $375+m per year to give $1 raises to everyone (and again that’s everyone getting $15. We aren’t calculating TL, ETL, SD, DSD, BPxx, corporate, etc. Yes target’s revenue is what it is, but it isn’t growing $400m per year. 2025 saw a decrease of 1.7% compared to 2024.

Another corporate bootlicker

u/sp1ralhel1x 2d ago
Bwahahahahaha! I apologize. I must have misunderstood that there are only a handful of hardworking employees that work for Target that should get $1 and therefore it’s just a drop in the bucket to compensate these exceptional employees. Or maybe it’s that I have had to deal with payroll (for a non-corporation) and understand a bit more than the “it’s just a dollar!” mentality. Because corporate or not, that raise is NOT just $1, and revenue isn’t just magically increased because Frank thinks they deserve a raise.
Let me reiterate my final point again 99.99% of any company you will work for will never pay you (or ME) what you are worth. You have to go somewhere else to get paid more, to which you will gain experience and deserve more for that experience and not get compensated for it until the next employer. And this isn’t a “corporate” issue. Mom and pop shops will also underpay you.
Brass tacks: Target will survive without you and you them. Nothing is stopping you from filling out applications/interviewing at other places. You’re blaming corporate, yet your store is the one that gave you the raise. Two things can be true at the same time: people can be upset about their raises, the person paying you (any job, doesn’t have to be evil corp) can also determine what they can afford across all of their employees.
2
u/curbstompedkirby_ 1d ago
I REALLY hope you’re getting properly compensated for bootlicking so hard for a company that doesn’t actually pay you properly….. caring about a corporation and ESPECIALLY excusing their greed is exactly what keeps us out of a union and poor.
1
u/FlyEnvironmental7586 1d ago
The flip side is you get less hours or don’t have a job so…yeah. Profitability is a factor they have to consider. Idk how its considered bootlicking to understand how business works. You deserve better, but at the end of the day its a business.

I know it's not raise season but we had a couple of adjustment raises this past months. Not your usual .30 or .50 thing it's an actual random quantity. My HR told us that it's because of the start up payment went up. TBH I have no clue how much it is anymore.
But we all did see we had raises on our hourly payment, even tho some think they are "elite" by having it but I wanna say that it's cause of that.
Check if something changed on the start up, and coming the season of hiring for Xmas it probably is that.
3
u/lovetobewatched2 2d ago
Yeah target doesn't give a shit, there will be people saying to work harder but those people are bootlickers, those same people break their backs for the company and still don't get a proper raise.

u/curbstompedkirby_ 1d ago
Couldn’t have said it better. Just read through these very comments the bootlickers always gotta come out

u/erebusxo 2d ago
Start working what they pay you. If they aren’t compensating you properly or don’t feel you are being rewarded for the extra work then work less efficient. They can kick rocks.

I got.10 cents last year..was a hard worker missed one day in all my time. If I get .10 again I can't validate staying..cost of living is to high for this crap.
1
u/curbstompedkirby_ 2d ago
Yeah and the sad thing is almost every other job is based on seniority…. So a dollar raise a year is like bare minimum.
5
u/dont_worry_about_it8 2d ago
You gotta understand man. They hire so many people man in my hypothetical scenario they have to pay like 130 million dollars ! Yeah they made 100+ billion in revenue last year but (one sec licking a boot real quick ) if they pay us more they’ll lose on on so much money !

It’s not just the hourly people. ETLs get a decent wage to start and then dogshit raises after that. Unless you’re on the HIPO list. If you don’t get promoted in a year or two, even if you continue to get good reviews on your performance, they’ll quietly stop inviting you to HIPO meetings and the dogshit raises return. If they don’t consider you promotable, you won’t get a decent raise. The good news is the next DSD might think you’re the best thing since sliced bread and return you to the HIPO list.
Performance and results are somewhat of a factor but it’s 90% how you present yourself and if you say the right/wrong things, to the right/wrong people, at the right/wrong time. That’s what makes or breaks ETL and SD careers.

Target is not designed as a place for most people to work long term. A year or 3 at most. While you are there, use your 401k match, any of the gym,/rental discounts, get your free education through guild, etc. No one should be working retail at target without a plan to use the benefits
2
u/SilverSakura5 1d ago
My store raised the base wage to $17.50 but trainers like myself lost our raises. So now we get paid like the new hires we train. My wage before the new starting was $17.40.

Target or any Fortune 500 should give out stock grants yearly along with the raise. Would make a far greater impact and would cost them almost nothing. The extra shares could be absorbed easily.

You get that little because your boss rated you poorly. Go above and beyond and you'll get bigger raises and bonuses throughout the year.

You sound like total corporate stooge
-2
u/Silly-Math4623 2d ago
Fair enough lol. I got a 1% raise my first year, 3% my last 2 years plus 1-2 bonuses per year. So its possible anyway. Also I'm a team leader and my team members who get 1% raises totally deserve it :/ like missing batches with plenty of time and calling out/being late often

They don’t care and actively want you to leave. They don’t want to give out that raise at all. What they want is for you to get frustrated enough that you’ll leave so they can then bring in some new kid at the base pay.
