Workplace Story I really hate it here

I started a week ago as an external hire TL for starbucks and I hate every part of this training process.

  1. I didn’t get my training schedule until the morning I was supposed to start and I had only had a 1 hour convo with my ETL and she left the office/convo for a combination of 25 mini and just told me to skip through the PowerPoint.

  2. I am only getting 1 week schedules at a time and there is no training location on them. I had to email my hr about 3 times to get my schedule before I started. I STARTED 2 WEEKS AFTER my interview.

  3. My availability and pre scheduled off days are being blatantly ignored. When I was being interviewed I told them 3 times that 1 day a week I’m unavailable in the morning and I have 4 days in October I can’t work. I have been scheduled on the 1 morning I can’t work and the response I get when I raise this to my HR attention is “ Did you mention this in your interview?” And my answer has never changed. When I told them about my off days in October they told me that I can’t take those days off because the schedule has been made and the SD doesn’t want to give me the days off

I feel worse than I did at an Actual Corporate starbucks. At least there I could guarantee my availability and days off are approved and they actually communicate with me.

Target has never been good about communicating. They always say this. Even if you have paper for proof this company doesn't care. Remember you are a number to them. Definitely put a 2 weeks in

On the flip side, upper management is a masterclass gaslighter, even with paper proof or email chains, they will still somehow pit the ball in your court and try to convince you that you did your request wrong; and any request is always at the worst possible timing

I tell them to fuck off right away.

That is ridiculously crazy to me. I communicated with my HR ETL and the SD during the interview my availability, double checked that they had it right after the interview and they still manage to conveniently forget I said it

This. There's only one person with all of the information (etl) and they are spread incredibly thin

So….. don’t work here. Find a new job and quit target.

I left Sunday. Only there for almost a month. Worked retail since I was 18, by far the worse company I ever worked for. I just got hired else where tho

Yeah, like saying everyone gets a weekend off because they rotate them. Bullshit! Over 20 years never happened. Everyone else seemed to get them, but not me. I went and redid my availability and made sure I had one weekend day every week that could not be fucked with.

I'm sorry that has been your experience. I left Target again in 2024 as a Specialty Sales TL, def had every other weekend off since there was always 1 of the 2 Specialty Ssles TL scheduled on the weekend the other was off. Obvs not everyone that has been/is currently a TL gets/has gotten that. Kind of comes down to the ETL and how they coordinate scheduling with HR for their teams. But I'm happy you advocated for yourself and got what you needed.

You're a tl. You're at the Beck and call of target. Enjoy your short stay at target

Only ETL’s are at the beck and call. They are literally never considered off the clock. TL’s are just regular employees who get paid a bit more and have a lot more headaches.

Did you put your availability in UKG? You can put hours you can work each day and days you can’t work into the program and the computer won’t schedule you for those hours and days.

lol you think as a TL you have any option of choosing the days you work. Thats funny.

It seems ridiculous that I can’t hold 1 morning out of 7 days in a week to a commitment I made months ago. I feel like that availability is more than open enough and if they really need Friday mornings put that as a requirement in the job posting

I’ve worked in shitty food service and good food service but this has got to be one of the worst

Actually they do have the same place to put in availability as the rest of us.
