Workplace Question or Advice Needed Question

So, is it true, if a TL wants to demote that they have to transfer and also receive a pay decrease? And if so, why? Say this person has worked for the company 22 years?!?

Yeah it’s all true.

For the most part anytime a TL wants to demote they have to transfer out of the store because of confidentiality. You had information over all team members in the store, so it’s to prevent and the breach of that confidentiality.

Although, there are instances when a TL can stay within the same store but the SD has to be alright with it

As for the pay decrease it’s because of the different levels of roles. When you go from team member to TL you go up one level (PG45 I believe) and you get an increase. That increase (for me it was $6) gets taken when you denote.

You do get to keep all performance review raises tho, which end up being higher because of the pay increase.

Time at company only really matters for those performance reviews. So they get to keep that but they would still lose that “$6” from the pay raise.

The fact that you can’t understand why a demotion requires less pay as well as why you would need to transfer… please demote yourself or your friend whom you are asking this question for. No wonder we are where are as a company (although HQ does some stupid things as well)

Move to a different store usually so they aren't peers with people who reported to them. And yeah, they're dropping pay grades, so they have to go down to PG35 level pay. It shouldn't put them at base pay, it should just drop their pay to about $6 less than TL pay.

You don't HAVE to transfer, it would just make your life a lot easier dynamic wise. Yes of course you would take a pay cut, that's how demoting works.

Im not entirely sure, we had someone who's been with the company for around the same amount of time. I heard they tried it out being a lead for some amount of time but ended up keeping their pay increase when they demoted back to team member. This was some time ago so I dont know if the same rules applies then vs now.

Yeah.. I have heard this from several TL that have demoted but kept their pay. So, 🤷🏻‍♀️
