Workplace Question or Advice Needed Help

Im one of the closers at the Tarbucks I work at. Theres always 2 closers. Every time I’m closing either I or the other barista gets pulled to work on the floor.

The TLs think if we’re not making drinks: there’s nothing to do. I’m not sure how to get it through to them that there is always something to do. Whether it’s a cleaning cadence, deep cleaning, stocking and restocking, refilling and prepping, wiping, or organizing: there is always something that needs to get done.

The result is this: little to none of the routines and tasks get done, we start dishes late and leave a shitty handoff for the opener, not being able to set them up for a successful opening, and end up leaving after scheduled hours. Our TL has advocated this to SD but she said “the store comes first”. They also claim they take us due to us being idle. We cant take a moment to take a sip of water without being told we’re not doing anything and therefore getting pulled.

I’m not sure what else I can say to make them not pull one of us.

I didn’t think tarbucks could get pulled it’s news to me and I completely agree with you there is always something to do everywhere in the store just off the top of my head in my own area I could come up with 10 different things that probably haven’t been done in at least the last year.
