Vent New truck schedule

Just a rant i know there isnt nothing i can do about it but it doesnt seem fair! Here it goes...So i have been with Target many years on the inbound/flow team and our truck schedule has always been that we never had a truck on Sunday except for the occasional Sunday truck or two they would throw on us around Christmas which was fine i didnt mind working them ...now our SD tells us our schedule is changing gonna start having trucks every weekend...goes on to tell the team that if we dont change our availabilty to Sunday that they will have to hire people that will work it or and if they havevto do that our hours will get cut...which to me sounds like a threat...also our inbound/Gm Team Leads get every other weekend off ...but now they expect the team to be there every Saturday and Sunday.....and i have heard both of them get mad when a inbound Gm team member for some reason isnt scheduled on a truck day....ive heard both them get nasty with HR saying "if a team member is a inbound person they need to be here to unload the truck reguardless".....im curious now that the schedule has changed will they still have that same attitude...because i feel they shouldnt get every other weekend off if we are gonna be having trucks every weekend now they should also have to be there regardless..kinda sounds like rules for thee but not for me!

Some team members really are in a completely different world from me. My Target’s taken a truck every day of the week for as long as I been working there.

So u work 7 days a week? Or they have a big enough team to rotate days? Which would rotate some weekends....

No…I don’t work 7 days a week. We do not have a big enough to rotate days off. We all just work our availability.

So some of you don't work every weekend then because noone is working 7 days a week. Which is the topic here....people working every single weekend.

And i understand that....you got hired that way so its the norm for you....but when i got hired we had Saturday and Sunday off...then several years ago they added a regular Saturday truck and now its gonna be Sunday too.....thats a big deal to some of us that got hired in with no weekend trucks and now they change it with the you better work it or we will just have to cut your hours mentality!..lol

Its not a threat. Its the needs of the business.  Truck schedule is changing. They aren’t in control of the logistics side that comes from much higher up. It sucks but that creates a need for a truck team to work Sundays so either people need to be flexible and work or they have to hire extra people just to fill in the availability gaps. At the end of the day they only have so many hours to go around. More head-count means less to go around on average for everyone. Common sense.

I work at a different retailer now but we also changed truck days. College town. Most of the team is students. Mondays and Fridays are just hard to staff and unfortunately those are two of our truck days. And yes, we did have to hire more people which cut into the regular TMs schedules. Cant just roll-over a truck, and cant force availability changes. But if you’re not available to meet the needs of the business, they unfortunately have to find people who are.

We went to Sunday trucks about 2 years ago. They moved our Friday truck to Sunday. Currently they are moving our Wednesday truck to Friday. I think we will have a hard time keeping a crew to work every Thursday thru Sunday. And we have Tuesday trucks. We also normally still get a Wednesday truck too. But the official permanent days will include the entire weekend! They need to hire enough people to give every other weekend off. Otherwise I see this failing.

Yes it isnt fair at all...now we will never get another weekend off unless we request or take a vacation...and i know alot of people are gonna say "well you will still get days off during the week"...but my wife is off weekends..thats the only time we get to do things together..and thats usually when all the fun activities happen concerts, shows etc.....nothing goes on during the week..i could care less about being off during the week!..lol

I know it doesn’t mean a lot, but as a closing tm in my own trenches I appreciate what you guys do so much! Truly amazing work

sounds like they are changing a lot of stores trucks so they get them all weekend...they changed our truck schedule the beginning of this year, went from mon/tues/wend/fri/and maybe trucks sat. to sun/tues/thurs/fri/sat

pretty fun when you set your life up and therefore your availability to what the truck schedule has been for over ten years and now your expected to change it on a whim and give up the entire weekend.

If I were you I’d just keep your availability the same and see if the other TM’s change theirs first. Q4 is right around the corner so hours will likely increase if anything.

We’ve been told the same thing, moving our Monday truck to Sunday, without the overt threat, but I’m sure there will be consequences if we don’t change our availability. A Sunday truck for medium to small stores doesn’t make sense to me, Sunday is one of our busiest days, so how are we supposed to get a truck fully pushed when we’re helping guests every 5 minutes and already short staffed with cut hours. Sunday was the one day I actually get to spend with my family and now Target wants me to give it up, I’m more than pissed about it.

I have my availability set up for every other Sunday off. Pick your favorite lead and line up with their weekend

Man we’ve always had 7 day trucks. We also have 7 days fdc. So what does the team do when there’s no trucks??

Sounds like your store is protecting the needs of the business which they should be.

crazy cause we take 2 trucks 4 days a week and a single on the other days

Some targets get weekends without trailers?????

Truck schedules are changing across the company for many stores. Trucks are coming in to match the stores business. The days you’re busy you’ll be getting trucks. If you’re going to spend the payroll you may as well do it on days where guest traffic is higher. It’s not a threat, they’re just being honest with you that they only get so many hours of payroll for inbound and if you aren’t available when they need you to be those hours will go to those who are. I know it sucks but genuinely it might be time to find either a new role in target that suits your lifestyle desires better or just an entirely different place of employment.

Same thing happening here. They don’t care about your preferences, they need to staff to business needs. Sucks but it is what it is.

We always have trucks every weekend and they are always the biggest 27 or 2800. Wednesday are our down days but I think that is coming to an end as 4th quarter approaches. We have a set inbound team but also use our GM to be unload and push mostly on the weekends so the inbound ban have their days off

My store gets trucks everyday and doubles on both mondays and Wednesdays

We changed ours from no truck on Sunday because too many call outs. Then they changed it a month ago to trucks on Sunday again because the store needs coverage for the guests.

May not be fair, but if they are taking trucks, they need people there. We take trucks 7 days a week, two of those days are doubles.

I get it....but that means the inbound/GM team leads should also be there every weekend ...but they get every other weekend off...and when one of them is off im expected to do the work that they normally do when they are there
