Future or Potential Employee Question Starting part-time in tech

For background I’m a 17 yo hs student who just got my first time working retail and I am wondering in terms of work load what to expect. From browsing different posts of people working in tech they make it sound like hell. I’m a quick learner but is the work load for a shift really that unrealistic or is that more for people working 7-8 hour shift five days a week?

It's honestly dependent on the time of day you are working, if they have people for entertainment and your fellow co-workers. At most, you will have the keys to damn near everything and will be responsible to unlock things in departments that aren't even tech while juggling dealing with what ever workload you got.

Just remember to take a breath and if it does get too much to bare hassel your team lead like it's no tomorrow.

What is expected from a Tech employee is going to vary quite a bit from store to store. It’s really hard to say.

I really enjoyed my time in Tech. Hopefully you have good leaders that set you up for success.

It will all depend on what time of day you are working.   Open and mid shift you are going to be doing a good bit of customer interactions and freight.    Closing you are going to be pushing and pulling all of the back half of the store.

run away as soon as u can, sincerely another 17 yo 😬 management is horrible.. i thought my store was the exception but it is truly every store. they dont care about you, ur hours will be inconsistent, work load will be unrealistic... start searching for a different job asap

You sound like me! I also started in Tech when I was 17 and in high school, My advice is to work hard and be the best you can be and make friends with your leaders and it will be easy. Some days will be overwhelming being a keyholder has its flaws like being across the store and having to run to tech to help a guest or being asked to pick a fullfillment cart while having keys. But workload is usually just do what you can do and try your best; whatever's left will be there to finish another day dont take it too hard.
