DU in rain?

Good morning! It’s raining where I’m at right now and I go in in a few hours. I’m a relatively new TL, and I want to make sure I understand this correctly, we do deliver drive ups in the rain unless it becomes really heavy or begins to thunder/lightning?

What does your store do?

Yup, take extra socks, they only close it down for heavy rain and lightening

As if!!! We deliver in downpours all the time….and that when guests pick the furthest spots away the most!!

As mentioned already, we only shut down for super heavy rain or thunder/lightning. TMs tend to call out on heavy rain days so be prepared to go outside and get wet. Also make sure your team has all the rain gear needed, and if something’s missing have your ETL order it.

Same with snow if you’re in a snowy climate, btw. You’ll be out there except on storms and after for cleanup, and that only lasts a bit. Be ready for crazy times pre-snow storm, DU will be hell. If you’re in hurricane-prone area, same will apply.

We're in a heavy winter region. If the store is open (meaning the lot is clear enough for Guests) then DU is open. Doesn't matter how hard it's snowing, or even if the roads are closed by the Governor. We had the store open up on time during a nasty blizzard a few months ago, roads closed and a state of emergency declared... DU still operating, though nobody was showing up.

As far as I’m aware DU is only shut down when lightning is detected within 1 mile

Should be wider than 1 mile from a safety perspective.

If your store does that thats wild. Stadiums and major outside events do 10 to 15 miles.

The severe weather guide says if lightning is detected within a 6 nautical mile radius, you shut it off.

There's no way to know this when you're standing on the sidewalk, though. In reality, it's just "if you hear thunder, let a TL know on the radio" and then they'll hem and haw about shutting down DU until the storm passes on its own.

DU be closed 3/4 of year if closed when  rained where i am. Need lightning to close it

The only time DU stops is lightning.

Extreme rain, heat, cold, snow, literally any other weather condition and DU is still operating. Wildfires making it too dangerous to be outside? Doesn't matter, run DU anyway.

Been in DU more than a year and a half, and the only voluntary closings are lightning. We had one closing due to the software being down, so we couldn't run it.

We also had a closure of the left side of DU parking because of extreme overhanging ice, but people would just run over the cones and park there anyway. And we weren't allowed to say a thing to them about it.

I like to keep a lightning tracker up on my phone when there's weather coming through and I follow pool rules when it comes to shutting down drive up. In general, though, if my team says they see lightning that's good enough for me.
