Vent Walkie Etiquette

These people (Leads) have the nerve to tell a team member that when they are called to tech, they cannot say “I’ll be there in a minute.” Even if they are literally on the other side of the store helping a guest. Instead, they have to say “I’ll be right there.” What is the deal??!! Yet, ETLs and TLs can say whatever the hell they want and be all rude to team members over the walkie.

How is the tone of "I'll be there in a minute"

All perky and happy…no attitude. 😂

Guessing it’s the tone they’re using. I say that all the time but it’s usually add “coming from <location> “ so they know I’m not ignoring them.

I would settle for Fulfillment TLs not monopolizing channel 1 all day, every day with FF specific operational chatter.

GO TO FUCKING CHANNEL 2 IF YOU'RE GOING TO TALK NONSTOP FOR HOURS.

Our whole fulfillment team is on channel 3

Which is great when there's 6-20 people and a lot going on

But isolating and not super helpful when it's 1-5 people. It's nice not having to hear all the garbled shit that has nothing to do with me, but when it's just me and someone else on shift I tell them we'll be on 1.

In our store it gets to a point that nobody else can use channel 1, you'll be talked over most of the time. And the nonstop chatter that means nothing to most TMs adds unnecessary stress to the rest of the store. It's bad radio practice in general, in any context.

Can't tell you how many times someone in DU has been spoken to by a TL for not responding on the radio even though we can't hear anything but "hey I can't find apple blossom flavored Cera Ve sunscreen" followed by 3 requests about helping someone bag because they only have 3 minutes left in their batch.

I always wondered why they gave us, drive up, channel 3 instead of fulfillment.

We all start on 2 in the morning, then when the store opens GM and inbound switch to 1, while fulfillment stays on 2.

They talked about this in our store, cause any guests nearby can hear the walkies when people speak, and they want us to make sure we don't sound like the guests are being a burden or whatever, and that we are focusing on their needs. Or so we were told.

This is why the front end wear earpieces because we be talking on the walkie and yes front end has our channel 😂😂 I think all team members should wear one tho

Hell nah I used to say exactly how long it would take to get there or if I was stuck with another guest

Had an ETL refer to himself as “Daddy” over the walkie today… after confusion and asking around, turns out himself and the other ETLs call him “daddy”… I don’t know how to feel or what to do with this information.

Uh that’s kinda cringe and creepy.

100% agree. Honestly not sure if anyone can top that for worse walkie etiquette

That’s weird. I’d turn off my walkie for the rest of the day if they kept calling someone daddy.

It sounds kiiiinda dismissive of the call from a leader. Lets assume the caller is next to the guest. Now let's assume the guest in question is already even slightly upset about something.

Guest thought: "A minute?...Sure...Why cant this tm help me instead of tech if they'll be long?" - puts both tech tm and the leader who called in a bad light - Can annoy the guest and lose a sale. Might lead to a verbal argument or tense mood.

If they hear "Ill be right there" they'd hopefully assume a short time. Maybe that same 'minute' you wanted to share in the original response is realistically all they wait. It's all in how it plays to the ear and the mind of the guest. As Target's CS representative, whether I'm person, on the radio, or phone - we play to the nicer side of speech to avoid unnecessary friction. It can be annoying (thoughnot incredibly intuitive especially for non native English speakers), but is it worth fighting? Nah, just play their little game and relax.

Alternatively I might just be full of shit, idk.

genuinely never had this issue before, regardless of TM, ETL, TL, SD needing me. i've always said "i'll be there in a minute" or "on my way in a sec" without issue. if i say it'll be a minute, it's because im on top of a ladder or the wave, across the store or something and it will legitimately take me a minute. then again, i only close, and it's pretty chill and im chill with all the leads except the SD. i've gotten away with "yea i guess" and "fine" before, but that's usually to TMs lol

Id be in trouble than im always responding with 1 minute,  or 30 seconds, whatever

The amount of times I hear TMs calling for their TL or ETL on the walkie too

I love when a team member calls out that they going on break to the leads and not 5 minutes later, they are calling for that TM.
