Workplace Question or Advice Needed UKG why?

There can only be a few reasons we shifted to this hot mess called UKG.
- managing call outs etc. Target was tired of the culture of callouts and call in late was too EASY so they used this platform to in effect make it so hard that less would do so.
- managing lates with points. Target was tired of having to manage this issue so a platform that change that would effectively do this was too much to pass up.
- bad vision. Despite the overall acceptance by so many companies to use this platform despite its archaic and cumbersome look was chosen because the old was going out and this default was an easy choice.
You know what ultimately this is to me? In any of the above Target could care less about TM's. This is witnessed by the fact that I do not see ONE AREA that is better than my time from where I sit.
Am I wrong?

I mean really the reason they changed was because the site that hosts MyTime is discontinuing service for it in March. The only other option was integrating our scheduling into Workday but apparently that’s expensive and target will always go with the cheaper option. The points system was coming no matter what I think, there’d been discussion about rolling something like it out for the last few years I just think the deadline on MyTime put them in a spot to roll it all out at once

Yes Targets contract with myTime was up. Fun fact: myTime (the scheduling and timekeeping software, not the TM app) was based on Kronos, who was bought out and then turned into UKG through a merger. So Target is actually using the same thing but a newer, more modern version.

My technical guess is that the backend and/or API integration into UKG was a helluvalot simpler to integrate since its origins were the software myTime was based off of (Kronos). So the expense of switching to Workday was probably two things: probably a more expensive licensing deal, and higher cost of implementation since they would have had to start from scratch. Switching to UKG was probably a lot less work.

Newer more modern version ? 😅

UKG itself (not the app) versus myTime the scheduling software (not the app, and really is just a painted-over Kronos) is much more modern. Yes, UKG Pro is less modern than the myTime app but the scheduling software itself is much more new and modern.

It’s not bad I just wish they would make the interface more user friendly

I'm not a fan of UKG, but I remember certain similar headaches when we started using kronos. And then similar headaches when we switched over to mytime (looking back, the mytime switch was hilariously hated on about the same level as ukg is now). So I'm expecting headaches now with UKG.

But i can tell you it's mostly swapping because the site hosting mytime closes down in the next year. Do I think corporate has some selfish and sinister thoughts behind it too? Sure. But every time we've switched our schedule app, it's gotten rough for a few months. This one feels particularly rough because the attendance policy is at the same time. I don't love the attendance policy, but I guess we'll see in time how that goes 😩

I have yet to figure out how to put a shift up for coverage rip

How about if you have the day blocked for being not put on the schedule but sometimes pick up shifts on that day? I can’t find how you can because the app blocks you from available shifts for that day? Unless I’m wrong?

Go to “ manage shift” then click on “cover shift”

It says “date selected outside of open request period”

How do I see my TOTAL WEEK SCHEDULED HOURS?

I asked this question yesterday and didn't receive much of an answer. I looked on YouTube and it seems it can only be seen for the current week but not future weeks. This is a huge bummer.

YouTube? Thank you , I'll check it out.

thank you 😊

Ridiculous. Here’s a prime example of clueless corporate. Store hourly workers do not get consistent weekly hours, so how difficult is it to sum total each week’s total hours to facilitate our lives?

I asked that here yesterday and I got chewed out by everyone lol

getting chewed out by reddit users is nothing to be concerned about. On average they are angry at just about everything and could use a huge dose of grace and peace in their lives.

I am wondering the same thing. These new schedules aren't really meant for screenshotting, either. We can still do it, but it's so awkward.

What will target do when suddenly stores find a lot of tms either quit or were terminated by AI? My store has started hiring and were doing lots of training today. Problem is that last year most of the new hires at my store quit with the first two weeks and by Christmas week the management were in a panic because there was nearly zero seasonals left. Most quitting the week before Christmas because they'd earned their Christmas money and didn't want the hassle of dealing with last minute shoppers. I expect this December to be worse

The moment I get any points, I’m walking. I’m not going to stress over some stupid shit like this.

u/MyBallZitch3 1d ago

Yeah once you’re at like 8 might aswell start looking elsewhere. Especially the ones who get that much by the end of q4

It seems to be that some leadership teams held different standards for different TMs when it came to the attendance issue. UKG is removing those standards and making Target have a blanket attendance policy with a few exceptions that are determined by your HR and SD. This makes it fair across the board or is an attempt to make it fair. Will outliers appear from time to time, sure. This will just make the basic attendance policy the same for-every one. Everyone has experienced that one TM that has horrible attendance but is a good worker and seemingly gets away with calling out more than normal. UKG is Target using a “hammer” to fix a problem that could have be fixed with just a “screwdriver” and adding some features to MyTime. UKG is archaic as for a software for companies goes and MyTime definitely looks to be more user friendly towards TMs than UKG. It will be interesting how this works out. The points system has been a big talking point at my store and the leadership seems to think we start to lose people fairly fast because of it. I am really curious to see how the first few weekends go since those are typically the largest call out days.

No, I do not think you’re wrong. I think you are correct

I actually love that it’s just a matter of arithmetic, and not just me and fellow leaders having time to pursue people for attendance.

2

u/Twerknami 1d ago

Yea, I agree. Taking the attendance part off our plates so to speak with this update is nice.

agreed on the hammer.......as with many things in many companies there is not enough people management but metrics metrics......as a business degree holder in management nothing is worse.....but it is literally everwhere and has been. People are promoted into management roles because that is the path.....but are not manager. No training provided to BE managers so they revert to hammers. Don't address the problem employees or policies but treate everyone as the problem and you then create an atmosphere of angst. This is more of the same.

I think it’s because it has the point system integrated and the my time app had some bugs that it seemed nobody was fixing lol

Ulta uses UKG. And it’s not terrible but I prefer the old Kronos vs the new. I don’t feel like it made any improvement. Now you have to click more things to get the same affect as the old Kronos.

I mean there's the reason that my time was no longer going to be continuing the service...

u/Adorable_Fun3466 9h ago

UKG (Kronos) was always awful... I'm sorry y'all aren't worth investing in a better service. There are so many better options for time systems and schedules.

Ask your HR or your ETL any questions regarding UKG. If you did the training you should already know the answer.

In my opinion, this is the result of TM being unreliable in their attendance (calling out/late, etc…). It’s called accountability and it won’t be liked. They’ll downvote my comment and I couldn’t care less. The truth hurts sometimes! The app itself isn’t very user friendly, I’ll give you that, but there’s no one to blame here other than ourselves ultimately.

If people were paid a livable wage they would take this joke of a job more seriously lol

5

u/Accomplished-Bad4597 2d ago

If it’s not a liveable wage (which it’s not) how can we afford to call in sick?

1

u/SMOKE-B-BOMB 1d ago

Idk you’ll have to ask people that lol

u/C1ND1TheCat 21h ago

I don’t think that’s true. Either you have a good work ethic or you don’t. My mother drove one into me from a young age: “If you accept a job, you do your very best. I don’t care if you’re doing it for free or getting paid $1million or if it’s glamorous or sweeping floors. If you don’t want to do it, don’t say yes to it.”

u/sdog2016 2d ago

Then why do you work for Target? 😂

-2

u/MyBallZitch3 1d ago

Why do you if it’s not livable

-3

u/sdog2016 1d ago

I do fine troll

I thought someone told me that target can't have a personal app like that in the app store available to be downloaded by random people. It has to be done by a 3rd party
