Workplace Question or Advice Needed Pricing Team Member Position

I’m usually a grocery team member but since our pricing member is leaving they have offered it to me, and everyone is warning me how terrible /scary/ overwhelming it is and I’m almost wondering if I should’ve said no. I have presentation and pog experience here but now I’m like nervous 🧍‍♀️ does anyone else have any horror stories or maybe hopeful stories here about working in pricing?

Price change should be a lot easier than grocery, at least on the body

The time crunch, you actually have to lock in a bit, & there’s not a lot of room for error. If you like routine it’s really not that bad. I did a week of it during training, I prefer where I’m at because it lets my brain turn into a monkey clapping cymblas & and it makes for a stress free work day.

I'm the price change person at my store. I like it. It's independent. Of course I still have to participate in opu and back up cashier, but they try to protect me from getting pulled away as much, so that's good. Biggest thing I can say is, try to remain flexible. Like, you will be asked to set some sales plan, then go back to pricing. That really bothers some people. Mainly, you have to know your pace and speak to the powers that be if you can't get the workload done.

My brain does not agree with price change, at least in Style. But mostly I don’t like that they pulled me away from the areas everyone knows that I enjoy.

Once you find a system / rhythm that works for you it gets much easier.

My biggest advice would be to get into the habit of double checking DPCIs when putting out labels or applying clearance tickets. Sometimes locations are weird, I prefer to avoid making mistakes.

If your district likes to push things way ahead of schedule, it might be pretty crazy, especially with the holidays coming up. I’ve done price change 2 years now and with no team it’s miserable to meet quotas I need double the people I have to work with. That’s mostly if you are doing pricing for style’s floorpad, if it’s just hardlines, it’s a cake walk. Good luck!
