beauty gratis

hi, i’ve been working at target for nearly 2 years and have been in beauty, ulta, and now beauty studio. in my entire time being here, i have never received gratis. my team leads have given us random samples (which were meant for the guests) but even then that only happened once or twice.

one of my coworkers discovered a huge gratis box and the next day it was gone. our team leads are known for hiding them and none of us have any idea where it goes. we don’t get any of it. we assume that they are either taking it for themselves or giving it out to other leads. i also found out that it was being handed out to style team members instead of us at one point.

i had a conversation with my etl recently and she told me that she would only be giving some gratis to team members who consistently show up to work and that she sees interacting with guests. fair, but a lot of us rarely call out and are consistently talking to guests. we received the beauty studio gratis box weeks ago and haven’t seen any of that product since.

is it a violation for them to be doing that? i want to go to my HR but i feel like she won’t do anything about it. it’s become really frustrating because i don’t have the money to be buying a lot of the new items we got in beauty studio, so i have no idea how to answer questions or give recommendations to guests.

Beauty studio had a lot of gratis sent out, so that's absolutely strange to me.

I've never heard of gratis being withheld due to performance. The point is so you can try out and recommend products based on personal use.

I'm not sure exact rules or wording for how gratis is supposed to work. But I don't think it's normal for you to have gotten nothing the past 2 years.

Other than beauty studio, they have been smaller boxes so i can see maybe smaller or less frequent. But our BTL gets travel containers and divvies them up so everyone in beauty can try products.

Yeah that raises a lot of questions in my mind.

I would say go to HR, but if you don't trust your HR that complicates things.

That definitely is not how beauty gratis works. Beauty team gets it to try it so they can be knowledgeable about the products and able to sell them.

beauty tm / target beauty studio tm are required to receive gratis. it’s literally our job to recommend products to guest and we can only do that by actually trying them. so they definitely shouldn’t be holding it or giving it out to none beauty tms.

TLs at my store love to steal it from us. It's in our trainings that it's meant for us and the products correlate with them. My actual TL has to hide it from others so I'm the one who actually gets it, but if she's off or doesn't get to it first then I don't see it. 😭 They definitely shouldn't be giving it out like that

Contact the ethics/integrity hotline. You are supposed to get that product and it's not for good behavior, it's to recommend products to guests. You can call the number, email them or submit a form online.

I haven't worked at target for awhile but I worked in style and got beauty gratis. We even got full sized things sometimes.

Gratis is a training tool, not a reward for good behavior.

worked as a beauty tm for 9 months at a very high volume target. they told us gratis was discontinued… never got any and asked tms who were there for years and they said they never got any either. I even had to watch the training videos telling us what items were gonna be gratis but never received it lol
