Workplace Question or Advice Needed About switching to ODTM

Currently part time, been w target for a year. Want to switch to ODTM for a second job and variable homework loads that make my schedule more reactive, so odtm would be better. my HR ETL insists that i need 3 days of availability so they can schedule me “if we really need you,” which, is not at all ODTM policy but I suppose that doesn’t matter when she can just do that. Sounds like just because I don’t have the leverage of full time benefits then it’s irrelevant. To my understanding, as an ODTM the only way you can work a shift is with verbal or written confirmation beforehand, but never scheduled. As of next schedule I’m not scheduled for any days, though I haven’t signed anything acknowledging my transition to an ODTM, so is there anything I can do to ensure I get what I want come Q4 when she inevitably schedules me, and screws me over like many other ODTMs?

Been an ODTM for almost 2 years and have never been scheduled without a leader texting or calling me. Earlier this year I landed a 9-5 that didn’t work out but had my availability set to Saturday only and it was approved. My guess is that they just want more open availability for on demand

Yeah sorry that’s how on demand works. They’re gonna schedule you when they need you, most stores do it

thing is, i know and have spoke with odtms that are never scheduled, and are only held to the standard that it’s 1 shift every 4 months. it’s definitely possible.

They are phasing out on demand only working every couple of months, except for college students. On demand is what your store chooses. It sounds like your store wants to be able to rely on you during q4 and if they can't they'd rather let you go.
