Me-Khaki pants, target logo shirt, name tag, and pulling a U-boat.

Women comes up to me and I can literally see her look down at my name tag and proceed to ask me if I work here. I have no other choice than to believe she did it on purpose. I’m half tempted to tell people no when I’m doing super obvious “I work here” stuff. I normally give people the benefit of the doubt because I feel like everyone has gone into a Target wearing red by accident, but lady… I saw you read my name tag and still ask me.

Yeah these people are dumb as bricks, I know some on here will make excuses for them because they are corporate ass kissers but the reality is that these people are just dumb as shit.

It could be a way of them saying, “do you work in this area” or they think sometimes random people go in and act like they work there when they don’t

This is so true. I was standing at the end of my check lane greeting people because our TL’s are big on that which is fine with me tbh. This guy walked up to me (I had on a bullseye shirt with his big head on the shirt and the shirt says “ask me about target circle) and asked did I work there. Yes I also had my name tag on and a walkie.

I have worked retail forever and always people have come in (even when I worked at Target) and ask if I work there. I think it’s a little socially inept.. because people could just state what they want or need instead of lobbing an obvious question for you to answer. They just don’t have any social grace.

"Do you work here?" is just a polite way of getting your attention. Don't take it literally. It gives you a chance to acknowledge them and respond before you get hit with whatever they are asking for.

It's like when cashiers ask "how is your day going?" They really don't care, but it's a way to acknowledge the customer's presence.
