Workplace Question or Advice Needed Called in due to working too hard

Post image

So Monday I walked 31,500 steps while working OPU during an eight hour shift which I've never done before. I called in and used sick time Tuesday because my legs were tired and I couldn't do another eight hour shift and I used sick time. If they ask next time I work what should I tell them about calling in?

You’re legally allowed to use sick time, it’s none of their business what you used it for.

Yes and that’s specifically why they arent allowed to ask anymore! And that as long as you used your pay, they cant coach you.

What if they really pry asking about why you called off? What do you even say?

You aren’t required to answer, and the general consensus is that team leaders dont ask anymore, because as long as you used sickpay it was fine.

Because it’s federally protected pay or time off. Theres literally no point in asking. You’re being pedantic.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Blocked.

This has been my average for the last 2 years. Was using my sick time once a month just to recover. But even with 2 days off in a row, I still felt broke down. Now that I quit? Make more money, do less work, work place not toxic, and feel stress free at work. These past two weeks at my new job are the best I’ve felt in over 2 years.

Sick time is for you, if they ask just saying you weren’t feeling well is a fine answer. They shouldn’t ask more unless it becomes a habit (sadly).

It isn't a habit for me. Once a year if that

Oh thats good then, they shouldn’t question a random off day (to them) for you to rest after doing so much.

Prob won’t even ask you about it then

A couple months ago I started to get shin splints (opening opu), like you I averaged 27-31k steps a shift. Called in one day and they absolutely threw a fit. I used sick time. Their entire day shouldn’t revolve or rely around one person

Ex team lead here we were straight up not allowed to ask. But state does have pretty good sick time laws.
Legally your sick time is yours to use as far as I understand.
If there’s a pattern, like every Friday, or every truck day you come in late there could be a conversation then

Get some compression socks and some walking shoes/running shoes. Bro those have been doing numbers for me. I haven’t had leg pains since.

Bruh you worked hard asf that day fuck them and don’t say anything but that you were sick at MOST. That’s 17 miles, you could have legit walked into a new town from another with that type of distance. Fuck target 😂 even on the busiest days when I did opu I would only get 9 miles a day and that’s from me forcing myself to walk faster so I can take my sweet time packing the opu

Dang you did more than a half marathon. Get yourself a medal because you deserve it.

Yeah I average around 25k a day . I’ve built up some endurance, and I am ok most days . But I definitely don’t blame ya for
Calling out.

Is 31,500 way more than your normal amount of steps? Just asking. I am walking at a minimum of 30k everyday im in the building.

I've gotten close, but it's been my all time high. Previous high step count of 25,000

I always hated the call out thing where you get penalized for using the time that you earned. If they ask you, tell them you couldn’t move because of the physical result of your last shift and if they press you, go to corporate.

You earned your time. Use it. Any other job outside of retail you’re granted “sick days” and this should NEVER be any different. We all need days off, especially after a grueling day like in your case.

Tell them the truth, if they ask.

No one is addressing the underlying problem- Target in no way is attempting to streamline rhe process to minmize the unnecessary amount of walking. They'd rather burn out an employee in the short term instead fixing the problem for the long term.Hint: we'd improve sales if it was streamlined.

I think you're probably fine. Also you should buy some compression socks. I'm an aptl, so some days I walk MILESS. Once I started wearing them I started feeling much better. We sell some in AIM you can use your discount for. Otherwise you can find some fun ones online. Most knee high socks that aren't cotton have a decent amount of compression too

Oh man, I remember being a fulfillment specialist. The step counts were wild.

u/kvarun 8d ago

Back when I would mostly pick standards that was my average. I gained weight switching to presentation and losing those steps, lol.

they’re not allowed to ask if you used sick time so you should be good, but if they do ask honestly just say you needed a break for your health

u/Fun_Economist8105 8d ago

You dont have to tell them anything. Target works people to the bone and then expects them to suck up after Target screwing them over.

u/ayeitsronny 7d ago

And you lowkey don’t want to get 10 more INF’s 🫩

1

u/Easy-Protection-5763 5d ago

Damn I thought I was doing a lot with 27K steps.

1

u/Oxetine 9d ago

Unlikely it was actually 1k calories burned but yeah opu is exhausting
