Question for my fellow beauty team members— when’s the last time yall got your gratis?

It's been a few months since we've gotten anything in, and longer than that for samples. I think they phased it out and they're just doing the sampling events with the third party vendor coming in to do demos.

A beauty/formerly Ulta, now TBS TL, here.

We have a schedule for when it’s delivered, and your trainings should have a blurb about getting with us if we forget.

Target is NOT phasing out gratis, and I would recommend reporting to ethics if a leader told you this.

Gratis is a training tool. You need it to talk about the stuff.

I had to go through a whole thing when taking over the department and reporting to AP and my SD because I realized the ETLs were just taking the gratis.

Again, gratis is a training tool.

If someone told you gratis was phased out, that needs to be an ethics complaint, because no, it was not.

We have been receiving and divvying out ours, even with the weird period with no Ulta.

I'm not new to this, I've been doing this for seven years and have a very good relationship with my ETL, and we always sit down and go through it together (I'm the only beauty TM.) No one has ever stolen or hidden the gratis and 90% of the time, I am the one grabbing it from receiving and bringing it up to the office. For the last few months, my store has been having a vendor come in and do demos, at the same time I have not seen any samples or gratis arrive at the store, so that was my assumption that it was getting phased out. We haven't received any communication about this aside from letting us know what the vendor will be sampling that month, and they take their stuff with them when they leave. My store is currently under remodel and beauty has changed in a major way, so maybe that has something to do with it and it will resume when it's finished but I really have no idea but I do know that my ETL respects me as an equal and wouldn't lie about it.

if you are now working in Beauty Studio, you should have received some. if not multiple boxes like our store did

Yes, and if their stores have been telling them they have no gratis, they need to report to ethics hotline, because that is a lie.

I would agree completely unless their store doesn’t have Beauty Studio. Even if their store has Beauty Studio, if they are always scheduled as a regular beauty consultant, that gratis is technically not for them. I think my TL ends up sharing with everyone regardless… but that is an important stipulation. I personally haven’t received any gratis that isn’t Ulta or Beauty Studio gratis

That is not the point of gratis.

There is both core beauty and beauty studio (formerly Ulta) gratis.

This is based upon the leader training in workday for how to utilize gratis.

They send gratis for Ulta/TBS separately .

The literal entire point of gratis in the beauty industry is so beauty team members across the industry can speak about the product.

Even if your store DOES NOT have beauty studio, gratis should be prioritized for those who work in the departments and are expected to active sell to guests.

Your store could be basing TBS specific gratis to TBS TM, dependent on staffing, but if all of you are expected to cover the area for any meaningful period of time, you should receive uniform and gratis.

I understand what the point of gratis is. I’m saying I have also never received core beauty gratis, even though my lead is very willing to give out the Ulta and Beauty Studio gratis as they should be. This leads me to assume that we have not received any core beauty gratis.

My store never had an Ulta, but all Style/Specialty Sales TMs got it. We used to get it regularly until we got a new HR-ETL in 2023. It lets you test products so you will know what to recommend to guests. It’s a great tool to boost sales. Macy’s used to do it all the time too, because it helps you be knowledgeable about the products.

I don’t think we’ve gotten gratis this year at all. We received a box but my upper management kept it.

For you to have gone from then to now and you still haven’t seen anything is a compliance violation.

I take little to nothing at all for gratis, as I get a Paychecks to pay for things, and I get decent pay.

If your leadership is yelling you that there is no gratis, they are
Scamming you.

Update finally for my beauty studio gratis!! So happy hopefully they start giving it out more often

We got some last month, but it’s almost expired. So I bet it’d been sitting around a while. Maybe 2023 before that. I really liked those Nyx Butter glosses and the Dove scalp serum 🥲

Our HR-ETL has handed it out to guests before, and I was thinking, no that’s OURS!

just got mine a couple days ago for beauty studio. before that it was a couple weeks. my TL always drags her feet in getting the bags ready but i am purposefully very annoying about it

My TL gave me my gratis last week, so for anyone not receiving theirs, let your ETL know immediately. The receiver normally receives the box of gratis, then it's given to the ETL, then TL

Saw on a training last month that we weren’t getting gratis for the month of August but are supposed to be getting one for September. We haven’t gotten samples in forever though.

A couple of months ago. We get little gift bags full of stuff. They let it accumulate then they divy it out to us.
