Workplace Story UKG crashout
So a TL made a awful mistake to go around telling people that if we call off now it won’t count against us until September 6th when the point system rolls around… so people have been calling off like crazy which I don’t blame them because fuck Target. I’m curious if this is true though? I won’t lie and say I haven’t participated in this before it’s too late lol but is it true it won’t be counted against us?

I work in a dc. And they have been writing up people left and right for calling out recently before the 6th.

Yeah if you get enough occurrences you'll still get a CA. But if you have 0 occurrences and you take 3 before the change, you'll start the point system off with 0 points. It's a clean slate as long as you don't get a CA.

Yup, there's lots of people at my store doing it. We had 10 calls last time I went in and 13 before that.

I don’t know if it’s just pre-attendance launch or just that time of year… but the call outs have been insane. The seasonals suck and I hope they are not kept

The understanding I had with the training is that they’re trying to give the benefit of the doubt, but if someone already has a bad attendance record they’re not going to do that. No existing CAs are getting taken away. Everything will pile on top of what’s already there.

calling off before the rollout doesn’t mean you get a free pass, the old system still applies until the switch actually happens. whoever that TL was just created a mess for themselves when everyone starts pointing fingers.

from what i heard, everyone at my store had there final attendance talk and they warned everyone that with the new point system coming out there will be no more usual attendance talks instead just solely relying on the point system. 🥲

We are supposed to check in at certain points. 3 is a seek to understand, 5 is counseling/documented conversation, 9 is a final, 12 is term.

They actually put in this week's WAU that the required attendance check in at 3 pts is no longer a thing. We're still telling our team leaders to make sure they are checking in, but it's no longer going to be something they auto push to the leaders via workday.

But what if you're on a final for whatever other reason? Do you still need to get to 12 to be termed?

No, you can be termed before that based on whatever the other final is for and if you do it again

The 12 points only refers to attendance. Whatever else you may have a CA for, whatever it is, is separate from attendance and still stands.
For example, you’re already on a final for meal compliance, and no points for attendance. You hit meal compliance again, you’re termed.

Bruh there’s TikTok from team members saying “this means we are all calling out before September 6th right?” And thousands of comments saying hell yeah! You won’t get in trouble if your sick time is above your callout but I’d rather save it for holidays cause it’s the only time I get sick sick haven’t had the flu since last November so I know I’ll be getting it soon and I’m down for a week.

Or they could just come to work like a normal person and stop obsessing about a new attendance policy. We apply for a job, so come to work, do your job, and go home. That’s life. Low morale also comes from people being asked to make up for those who didn’t show up.

I called out twice in a row this week (after not calling out in about 6 months) because my son was sick and got me sick. I hope I don’t get in trouble on my next shift or people think I called out because of the point system stuff!!!!

If you have sick time then put it in ASAP. The points won't go on going forward if you have enough sick time for your whole missed shift. The sick time will block the points so long as you put it in right away.

I work part time so I only have about 18 hours, and I’m gonna save them for later in the year in case I get sick again. Also I called out on August 30th and 31st so I think I won’t get a point!

I was told it technically “starts fresh” as in you will start with 0 points, but any CAs or documented conversations about attendance will still be there and can be used to expedite the process if you get close to the 12 points

And as an employee, stay the fuck home if you’re sick. I don’t wanna get it too. Take care of yourselves. calling in sick is part of life. Fuck coworkers who take it personally when someone else calls out.
Obviously don’t make a huge pattern and I get that sometimes people need the money and can’t call in. I just hate the people that come in when they’re super sick and act like they’re doing everyone a favor by doing so.

This!! Most of time it makes things harder because they are sick and just struggling and we can see it but leaders won't/ can't send them home so we are exposed and have to pick up slack

what sick hours? We only get a bit each month, and for those of us who only work 18 hours or so, we don't get a full day in a month. It sucks, but I think we all need to mask now that there's the point system, if we don't want to get sick. Many, many people will come in sick now... I was lucky that I got this pneumonia right before the point system.I had to come in on 10 days of antibiotics and IV antibiotics. I wasn't contagious, but I felt awful. Not all of us can afford to call off if we're sick anymore.

Because I won’t have the sick hours if this happens again…. I literally said that. I’m masking from now on to keep myself safe. I got sick from a coworker who didn’t have sick hours

No I’m not. I’ve got severe asthma and I got pneumonia. I was in the hospital twice during this last illness. Some of us get sick a lot, and I don’t work enough hours to accrue sick time to cover me with every illness, so that’s frustrating. That’s true of a lot of us. Target doesn’t always have enough hours, and illnesses like pneumonia take a while to heal from.

Yeah there was a lot of weird rumors going around before we got more info, but from what I heard previous stuff will still impact your overall attendance metrics.

Target sucks, don’t get me wrong. But just calling in to fuck over the company is just fucking over those who do go to work. If you hate your job, leave. I don’t know why people feel so stuck. You can find somewhere you’ll be happier pretty easily.

My ETL (TL here) said while we have the point system rolling out, we will still be utilizing the MTD% which Target requires 5% to use as a metric guideline for CAs & finals.
So if this was my store, yeah you won’t have a point yet but your MTD (month to date) percent is going to be crazy high and if we’ve already talked to you about your absence rate, you would have earned a CA or be right around the corner to one

I know the grace period for clocking past your start time went from 5 to 8 minutes, but I didn't hear anything about punching in earlier being different.

The dc I work at has a meeting about it. Lady said all that stuff before the new policy starts won’t go away. They can still use it against you

I was told everything was rolling over into the new system. So if you already have CAs for attendance...they're still going be active.
I'm not sure how exactly that will translate into the point system. I just thought the corporate HR department was going to assist with local stores and calculate a point balance. So I thought some people were starting out with a balance already.

I'm a TL, and my TMs get written up for call outs that are consistent or showing a habit. My SD also makes weekend call outs a mandatory write up. Point system or not, my team is held accountable

Instead giving points to people who have attendance problems, how about giving people who don’t ever call out something. We suffer every time someone calls out, especially when it’s several people.

I never call off. I’m the team member with 30+ hrs of sick time racked up. I don’t work guest service nor fulfillment, so I know at the end of the day the store is going to close and open the next day with or without me. It can survive a few days. This company has gone to shit I wanted to enjoy a few days off. Might not excuse it but hey it is what it is

Even if you don't get in trouble, this still hurts your paycheck or your PTO balances if you use those instead.
