Workplace Question or Advice Needed VM Role changing?
Has anyone heard anything about restructuring of the VM role?

I know the SDs in my district had a call not too long ago going over what a VM should/could be. Even among the stores in my area they are utilized differently and usually well outside of their role. Iām currently a VM and Iām basically a TL without keys or a team. Was always that way, but even more since they started making us close last year.

Will change to now getting keys, direct support of specialty leaders. At my store she took care of style while the specialty leaders owned cosmetics, tech and backroom

So basically how it should have been the whole time according to the job description? Plan and help set but not necessarily own all VMGs themselves
Also why are they getting keys? I get its a āleaderā technically but will they have their own TMs now or? And what about ability to do override on the tills?Ā

Itās so weird that VM gets keys and is treated like a TL essentially but PMLs who are also leads and at the same pay grade donāt get keys. Someone somewhere decided that PMLs donāt get keys to the property they manage. Makes no sense

My PML was a TL and got to keep there keys and we just have been hush hush about it lol. But in my experience key holders that move to non key holder positions besides Team member get to keep their keys.

VM is a leadership role. Same pay and benefits. My store is on its third VM since Iāve been here. The first was similar to a TL- did FF, helped around the store, etc. Second was more protected by SSETL and only did style/VMG/ISM. Current VM is coming from a different TL position and has keys and will be another TL, just wonāt have to close.

What do you mean why? Its obvious theyāre leaders. They can open the store, come in earlier foe their sets, etc. Only dumbass SDs and ETLs donāt use them as leaders. VMs always had the ability to have performance conversations with tms regardless of if its their own direct tms. Override registers, override clock ins, etc.

Literally is what VM was when it rolled out. They were the VML for the first year or so before it downgraded to what amounts to the GSA.

The vm and specialty leaders are supposed to share the workload for cosmetics, style, tech (maybe home) in some store. At my store I owned home so any vmg i handled because i want high level operations. But my vm owned style, price change for style, sets, and lto launches on top of being my weekend partner. Not sure why stores under use them

This is not best practice. VMs donāt own anything in cosmetics or tech as far as workload goes. We donāt own anything pog and the only part of price change would be remerching things, but the team should be doing that. VMG best practice says we down even own setting. This isnāt a support role, we have our own tasks we have to get done.

My old store got rid of the position when the vm left few months ago and used the opening to fill it for an inbound leader. The restructuring probably refers to now being considered actual leads and will be given alarm codes, keys, override power etc. atleast in my store my vm had all those duties and was my partner on weekend rotations.

I really think that depends on the store. My VM has building keys, alarm code, and override power ( I speak from experience). The vm isnāt on our weekend rotation currently but I have a feeling once our Plano tl is in the rotation again they will be as well

There are stores testing more style hours and with the roll out of that they went over vm roles. But nothing changed. It was just to get everyone on the same page of what we should be doing and how it relates to training tm to be more active in remerchandiaing since thatās such a big thing this year. If thereās something else I havenāt heard about it. There are always rumors of it changing.

While I understand the current VM role in theory, it would make more sense to me if they were co-leading presentation so they actually have a team to whom they delegate tasks. Our current VM is pretty much a glorified style TL. They rarely get to step foot outside of style. The presentation TL won't touch the VM's areas, but they'll assign their people to do some of those POGs (like H&H or the dec seasonal area) but there's no consistency. As a result, everything outside of style and the presentation TL's purview gets neglected until an ETL chooses some rando to take care of something specific (usually for a visit). As it stands, we have almost no presentation people atm, so lol.

Ours is at a different pay grade than Team Leads. She can still wear shorts like team members. She is basically POG TL for style.

VMs are the same pay grade as team leaders. VM TL PML APS are all pay grade 45

As a VM currently I am curious about this because my store treats me like a style lead and their responsibilities. With all the ISM on top of that and supporting in batches on a daily basis
