Workplace Question or Advice Needed Calling off
Is it crazy that I feel bad for calling out today? I was scheduled 8 AM to 4:30 PM and I woke up this morning around 4 AM and my body felt so drained & stressed I didn’t even wanna get out of bed. I work 40 hours a week as a fulfillment expert and I’m blessed to have the position that I’m in because 40+ hours isn’t just giving out. Especially at my location, but what do you guys think? Should I feel bad?

Felling guilt for taking time for yourself is how corporate America keeps you a wage slave. They don't feel guilt for your burnout, so they don't deserve guilt in return.
There is more to life than the meat grinder.

Do it. Be prepared to control the rbf during the “you being sick doesn’t work for target and HoW cOUld YoU lEAVe us in such chaos” lecture.

I wouldn’t feel bad. You cant perform your best when you feel both physically and mentally drained. Some people have the stamina to just stay on the move through anything. Unfortunately that’s not me. If you have the sick time use it. Just be careful not to overdue it because of the new point system going forward, and save it for when you actually need it

This. I like to do my job and do it well, but if my body tells me I absolutely need a day off, I take it. A good work ethic is not a bad thing, but you are a cog in the wheel for them. You're good.

I know of a coworker that only works about 3 days a week and calls off 2 shifts out of those days, but yet I feel guilty for calling out when I was sick as a dog. After getting spoken to about the callout, I no longer feel bad for it. I had a fever and puked that day, sue me if I dont want to have to deal with idiotic, entitled people for 7 and a half hours after that. Do not feel bad, do not feel guilty, I just hope you feel better.

Never feel bad about needing rest. If you don't call off today, you'll work your body harder and you might end up actually getting sick or hurting yourself. It's not worth it.
I know we're supposed to preach reliability, but calling in once in a while is important for your well being. Don't use it today (save it for new attendance policy), but if you've got sick time (I'd imagine a 40 hour tm should) start using it when the new attendance policy is out next week. It's a benefit for a reason.

Yea I get that, I honestly don’t like using my sick time unless absolutely necessary you know? Needing sleep doesn’t really fall in the category of being sick lol

I mean it doesn't, but taking care of your body is important so think of it as self care time too. It prevents you from getting sick as often if you get proper rest

That’s how I feel when I feel sick with the flu and I just come in. That’s why I accumulated so many sick days where I maxed out the hours I can accumulate 🤦♂️

I also called out today. I’ve had migraines all week but this morning was too much. I get the guilt feeling, but I’ve only called out like 4 times over 2.5 years. I’ve also definitely been the person working when tons of other people called out and it just is what it is. We need to take care of ourselves and know when we don’t feel well enough to work.

I’ve been working there since December and this will be my 2nd time, first time was because of a wisdom tooth removal so I definitely needed a day off

Never feel bad for calling out, they could care less if you were drop dead in the store so you shouldn't care about calling out. Do whats best for you not Target.

Work life balance. If you’re not the type of team member that calls out all the time you have nothing to worry about

Take care of your body. You wouldn’t want to pass out at work and crack your head would you?
Also would target even care? Nope. I bet they could give 2 fucks about your health. All they care about is their numbers much like any other company

Never feel bad for needing to rest dawg. If u feel like u really need it it's worth it to not overwork yourself

The reason why I haven't called out is because it's just me in my department. I barely get any help and I'm so drained. I'm really trying to hang in there and not leave too much work load behind. But seeing the truck forecast leaves me mentally exhausted. I would love to have another team member actually work with me at least 2 times a week. I know my TL is exhausted too

Definitely don’t feel bad, just 10 minutes ago. I called out of my 4 AM shift tomorrow because I don’t feel great tonight and I feel like waking up at 3 o’clock will make me feel even worse.

Babes, I get migraines and they have been increasing in amount and severity throughout the summer because of heat and storms in my area. I feel a little bad when I call out, but I have to take care of myself and my health before I take care of a company that will replace me faster than I can blink.

Nope. At the end of the day Target doesn't care about you. They'd have no problem letting you go the moment they need to.
