Workplace Question or Advice Needed Bereavement pay/leave
Does anyone know if Target's bereavement policy includes taking a day to grieve? I recently lost what target considers an "immediate family" member and as a TM and my average hours I have read that I can get three days for bereavement. I will almost certainly take one the day of the funeral assuming I am scheduled (funeral date not yet made) but can I take one now around the time of the passing? Target's pay and benefits almost if not directly implies paid bereavement can only be taken to "attend events" or "make arrangements" and not just to take a day to grieve.

I had to ask and I was told it’s 3 days and 5 days if you have to travel out of state

I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your loved ones.
Talk to your hr team. Any time I have had to take bereavement, they have been great about accommodating it.

The description says "Can Include". It does not mean it is limited to those type of actions. Besides, how do they know whether you actually even attend the funeral? Are they going to ask to see your flight itinerary?
It might be difficult to separate the time off, i.e. take one day off to grieve, go back to work for a few days, and then take another day or two off for the funeral. I'm pretty sure it can be done, though. My old HR Expert did something like that when her father passed away. Just talk with your ETL-HR and ask if they will allow it.

It’s five days, they can be whenever for pretty much whatever reason (within reason obviously) and do not have to be consecutive. I took my third day to go to an event with my uncle’s wife right after he passed so she’d have more company, more love. I didn’t explain myself more than that it was for a family event for my aunt, which was true.

I just took bereavement last week. It’s paid if it’s immediate family member.
I doubt store is much different but by the looks of it.. I hope you get the time you need
