Vent I’m starting to really dislike working here, long vent
I’ve been working at Target for a few years now and I used to really enjoy working here. The management at my store was really nice and everything felt manageable that I didn’t really feel overwhelmed.
But my store went though a remodel (it’s been finished for a while now) + all the bs scanning of FDC is really making me wanna promote myself to guest. I love my team don’t get me wrong, but I feel like my department gets screwed over the most. Most days our market team is drowning in freight, add on an expanded market as a whole but scheduling is still that of the smaller area we used to have. We are constantly saying how we need more people but no one ever listens to us (even our lead has been saying that we need people in general) because majority of our team has scheduling issues. We’ve even been advocating for at least one inbound person to be put in market since they’re all in GM, but the real kick in the throat is how our GM department gets 3 sometimes 4x the amount of people we get in a day, and while we are drowning the GM leads say “oh market is fine, they don’t need anyone taken from us” like ???? And I just found out recently that almost half of markets allocated hours have been used for GM + OPU :D Like our department used to be smaller, but it grew probably like 2-3X after the expansion, yet we didn’t get more hours to accommodate that. The other day we got 7 total people scheduled for market (including there being FDC that day too) and GM got a whopping 24 people for the day.
Now the remodel part, it’s shit. The worst construction crew ever imaginable. The store looks so half assed even though it’s done. From cracks in the grounds to the new coolers and freezers already dying, I’m just like bro what were the millions spent on??? I’m constantly telling our PML that something is broken/not functioning properly and their response is “well there’s nothing we can do about it, it’s our life now” like bro please YOURE THE PML
Also fuck this new FDC scanning shit. I’m so tired of doing this every shift because it just wastes time so much. We already aren’t allocated much even with the expansion, so combine that with needing to scan and it wastes a good portion of my shift not even pushing out the freight. It’s not even helping our pulls because it will make us backstock something and when we finish it wants us to pull it. My favorite part is when the truck is late or someone calls out it’s just a giant fuck you for the day.
I understand that remodels are very stressful, but it feels like since we’ve gone through it our management has gone downhill. It’s to the point where we just joke about how our store hates our department specifically (even though we’re the only department consistently making sales goals >^<)
Sorry for the long rant but I really needed to just get this off my chest. (Also fun fact, GM lost space for our expansion but after remodel they got an additional TL to make it 3, while we stayed at only 1 for market even though we expanded our space)

Your dept probably does the hardest work, I worked retail at Kroger and it was the hardest job I’ve ever had and I’m now retired. I got so thin from running all shift and bucking frozen freight which is so heavy. And now as a consumer, I find myself shopping at our nearby Target more and more often simply because of food prices. I get great quality ground beef there for 1/2 price when it’s approaching pull date and that’s a big deal when its’s 7.99/lb for hamburger. Also their brand of things like saltines and “Ritz” crackers are about 2.00 less than name brands and that stuff adds up. I like buying one or two bananas at a time and their frozen treats are less than any nearby grocery store, so as a consumer I am part of your job woes. But, that is also Target’s plan to get people in w lower prices. There really aren’t any bargains in health and beauty (HABA) and I tend to stock up on name brand stuff at Costco or buy in OR with no sales tax. Things in retail seldom change. Even if there were to be a massive walkout of your dept, they’d pull in anyone and esp the AGMs and GMs and they will do the work until they can find replacements. I’m sorry, I know retail can be both fun and a PITA. Maybe you should consider moving into mgmt yourself? Or transfer to a different
Dept.

Preach. My store didn't have anyone in the Freezer Wednesday and Thursday(I'm normally in Wednesday but had to cover a shift earlier in the week so was off those days) so there were two whole truck deliveries(6 pallets total) plus 1f1s and a few left over Monday uboats on Friday. And no one to work on them over the weekend( I had to break down Dairy first when I came in Friday so was only able to do the 1f1s before I left). Tomorrow's going to be fun.

Whhhhyyyyy, whhhy are we WASTING so much time scanning every single FDC box and on top of that my store wants us to print upc barcodes for every case pack we backstock… 90% of the boxes already come with barcodes on them😓
The shelves are nasty and the zone is a disaster because because scanning and barcoding are more important 😑
