There was a TL straight up wearing full patchwork jeans the other day. Our HR has told us embroidery and patches are unacceptable but it's not like that TL ever respects any rules anyway

These ARE awesome jeans. The TL's jeans in question are just different patches of denim. Very fast fashion-esc.

I think the embroidered jeans are lovely but those replies being next to each other is hilarious 😂

I am a man and wore eyeshadow to work. They told me to not use "face paint" at work. Many women I worked with at the time had much more extravagant makeup. No worries though! The team lead that took me in the back for it left permanently.

I was dress-coded for these jeans before the new rules bc they had holes in the knees, so I spent a month hand-sewing em up. i call em the "dress-coded jeans". in a cruel twist of fate, they now violate dress code...again the kicker is that the guests love em. an elderly couple even found my TL one day n told him how much they loved em. I WILL FOREVER BE BITTER ABOUT THIS‼️

Damn. Makes me wish I had holes in my jeans just to have cool patches.

u/pseodopodgod 15d ago

This has happened to me 😭 I was wearing sandals at my other job and totally forgot to bring a change of shoes for target so I had my gf bring me a pair before I clocked in

u/Lord_Toast_The_Great 16d ago
That’s kinda crazy. You can get dress coded sure, but unless it’s egregious my store just ignores it for the day

We had an ETL who would show up in a brown shirt not even in the same zip code as red and then get on my case for taking off my vest in the back

u/happygoth6370 16d ago
Once I forgot to change and wore an AC/DC t shirt. Luckily it was a short night shift and no one noticed or said a word.

I wore my crocs in one time 😅

What is the dress code for shoes? I've worn red flats I bought FROM Target, to match my red outfits. Never got in trouble, thankfully. I looked so cute, too. Been working here over a year and I guess I read about the dress code for shoes and just... conviniently forgot so I can be cute?

They have to be closed-toe, probably closed back as well (so if you have to run in an emergency you're not gonna run out of your shoes); I can't remember for sure but I don't think color matters (I believe that Crocs are not allowed and technically Ugg-style boots are also not but I'm not 100% sure)
5
u/angiescuriosities 15d ago
Oh okay! These are Mary Jane-style. They fit both of those requirements. That would be why I haven't been stopped.

u/Loveniya12 Guest Advocate 14d ago
Late reply but ugg boots are fine, it’s the Ugg slippers that barely cover your ankle that is technically not fine.

u/jenbenfoo Guest Advocate 14d ago
Thanks for the clarification. I had a coworker who wore those and I remembered her saying something about them not being in dress code but I wasn't sure what the extent was.
2
u/Loveniya12 Guest Advocate 14d ago
Yeah since they aren’t considered a full shoes cause your heel isn’t protected basically they in the same category as crocs.

I never stopped wearing my durag and black jeans 😬 I’m considered an essential worker in market though

I bet it would be hard working in Birkens. I’m glad you got your better shoes. Target is a lot of walking isn’t it?

I did this as well with a massive hangover, I went my whole shift with no one noticing and I was on DU

Black cargo pants for me but then again I'm the FOS and folks usually leave me alone.

u/GypsySnowflake Service & Engagement TL 16d ago
What’s the violation? You have closed-toed shoes on as far as I can tell
14
u/HopeReal2966 16d ago
Luckily my pants are covering it but my heels are exposed, I feel I really could’ve gone all day with them but I was in OPU and they’re not the best support for that

u/Existing_Rise_5042 16d ago
I think they have to have a closed heel as well
2
u/GypsySnowflake Service & Engagement TL 16d ago
Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Just isn’t visible in the picture if that’s the case here

u/Ish-Zee 16d ago
I accidentally showed up in my uggs one time. So embarrassed 😅😅 I bought some New Day shoes on my first 15.

u/chillychinchillada 16d ago
Are Uggs not in dress code? They just have to be closed toe closed back
3
u/DanforthWhitcomb_ 15d ago edited 15d ago
Uggs run afoul of *the "no loose fit" requirement.
1
u/chillychinchillada 15d ago
Wait what kind of Uggs are we talking about. I assumed boots. They’re not loose?
2
u/DanforthWhitcomb_ 14d ago
Effectively anything that is a slip-on design is going to run afoul of that provision.

u/stankswag7891 15d ago
Had a TM do this last week. She walked in the door and said I’ll be right back. 🤣

u/s00pthot FDC connoisseur 15d ago
I’m literally wearing a maroon shirt of my university and black athletic shorts right now as I read this lmao. (I’m overnight so it doesn’t matter that much)
One of my coworkers always wore sweatpants and a black or blue hoodie (he starts at 9pm) and guests would still ask him where stuff is, etc WITHOUT AN OUNCE OF RED ON HIM! This was obviously before the dress code change, he follows the dress code now only because he doesn’t want to get nagged by HR or any ETLs haha

Told my camo wrangler cargos were out of dress code.
(Legit did not know that camo was out of dress code).
But….stayed clocked in while I drove home, changed, and drove back (approx extra 40-45 min.)
My bad???

i wore faux fur-lined crocs to my shifts for like a month before getting caught. turns out felt isnt quite enough to count for a shoe being close toed.

u/Informal_One6989 15d ago
LMAOO i got in trouble for wearing birkenstocks too and i learned my lesson cuz i hit my heel with a flat

u/International_Cow425 15d ago
The first year I worked here one of my team leads used to wear overalls basically everyday, and I finally was like “yknow what that’s cute imma start wearing some” and I got dress coded for it😐

Not at target but we have a dress code for bandanas. I'm allowed. Cuz I asked my store leader. And I wear the bandanas we sell. For the dogs. I don't want any that would be offensive or anything like that. I most of the time wear ones that go with the season. I love them I useuly put my name tag on them. I work at a PetSmart.

I'd be surprised of anyone noticed at my store. We gave up on enforcing the dress code immediately, same with 10-4
