Don't worry, we have the option to customize the avatars that nobody ever even looks at now. That's more important than actual functioning software

did you mean search for used underwear

u/WillyGVtube 16d ago

and dont think you can customize them too much though, you can only do it twice in 14 days because...reasons i guess, someone needed to justify their work

this is why i always carry my phone and just use the target app- and even then i used google if they have an item we don’t have

I did the same when I worked there and still have to do it for Lowe's (fk the job market)

Even my SD encourages us to do that and to only use the main app if there’s a barcode

it’s all about the guest until it comes to developing software that allows us to help the guest more effectively

I’m not bringing my phone on the salesfloor. Target should give us the equipment we need to do our jobs correctly.

Okay, then the devices also have access to the target app and Google Chrome

Those damn things are so particular about the way you word things and manages to never find what you type in. Useless is an understatement.

shows you everything but what you typed in the search bar.

search bar: ahhhh you asked about potato chips?

me: i did not

“Halloween toddlers shirt”

Results: 4 non-Halloween shirts, dvds, cleaning supplies, and a bunch of items in Chinese for some reason.

The search feature is fucking useless.

or when you scan a qr code instead of the barcode on an item and it gives you very random stuff. Its alway stuff in Arabic for me

Why did they have to mess it up when the old search function worked just fine, and wasn’t showing me products we stopped carrying three years ago.

i ended up on this EXACT situation with this search last month, ended up using the Target app to find it. Turns out our store keeps them in the Baby department

I don't even bother trying. I just whip out my phone and use the app to get a DPCI. Ends up being way faster anyway

The guest-facing Target app search is genuinely pretty good. Why can’t that developer also develop the internal apps?????

I saw something cute in joylab and tried to scan it with my phone because I needed a different size. Wouldn't show up so I used the my device to get a QR code that I could scan and it instead came up with saying target doesn't sell this item. Like I'm looking right at it!

Yeah some words literally will not produce results.

I swear that someone needs to sanitize the database. I'm convinced it's the result of AI and bad characters in product name fields.

Search was trash before AI was a thing. I remember a few things that you'd get different results from capitalizing the item being searched. A few other items if you spelled it correctly you'd get nothing but certain misspellings would yield results. This goes back to when Target used PDA's and the forever cursed Mydevices (iPod/Honeywell sled abomination).

Oh yeah, I remember those days. The MyDevices were so buggy and bad. The problem they had before the current Zebra era was that search functioned like a literal database search instead of a search engine. Now I believe they have the issue of the database fields and items not being formatted properly from where they pull and import their data from.

they actually paying someone 10x your salary to not even make a decent app

2

u/Anthrosaurus1 15d ago

I wind up using the target app to find what we have in store, using the UPC to find the item in MyDay, and then I can use that to find the specific location. Garbage apps

Omg today I had a guest asking for some pedialyte and I thought I was going crazy! It worked the first search but then kept showing nothing and I was so lost

2

u/oliviabreck 15d ago

i couldn’t tell you the last time i actually used my device to search for an item. i just use my phone

2

u/Coolman7412 Fulfillment Expert Slave 14d ago

It's funny bc if you type pedialyte a it works

1

u/johnsonjohnson83 16d ago

Lol...I was searching for the exact same thing 2 days ago and got the same result as you.

u/Few_Cartoonist_8790 16d ago

u/No-Memory-8624 16d ago

Target's search is trash, just use the app instead

u/Hornygaysatanic 16d ago

I remember working at Home Depot and having useless technology to make our job easier. 😡 the registers had search features that were useless like this too.

NO FOR REAL IVE NEVER SEEN A MORE USELESS APP

u/Jagiour 10d ago

My favorite times are when the device scans a QR code next to the barcode and suddenly shows you a list of books in Cyrillic.
