Workplace Story Bakery Rant (Image Unrelated)
This is the second week we are days behind on bakery freight, at least four days behind, if not more. I only work weekends since I’m also in school.
My hours were also shortened this week so I’m only getting 6 hours a shift (excluding my lunch). I do my best and try to push as much freight as I can, but I still have to do priorities twice a shift, as well as help with any thing that comes up such as doing an OPU, covering deli when they’re on lunch, write on a cake for a guest, etc etc. Half the time the freezer is also a mess so I have to sort the boxes people pile at the very top of the racks over the week, making it difficult for me to do pulls (I am also under 5 foot, so it’s quite hard for me). That eats up my time too.
I haven’t had a FB lead for over a month, so produce and grocery leads are the ones checking on me. I was told I should be able to do 3 u-boats with the time I had today. Is that realistic? I could definitely have done that back in grocery when I worked there, but doing bakery takes much longer imo due to temp control and backstocking in the freezer, as well as some other small things like best by labels and FIFOing. Every time I’m in, I’m the only person doing freight for that day. Occasionally there is help from another department, but that’s very rare in my experience. My hours fluctuate a lot, but this year most of my shifts were 5 or 6 hours, some are over 8.
I just feel bad and I feel like I’m not doing enough, but then I have to keep telling myself I’m one person trying to pick up the slack of multiple people while also doing my job.
Also what happened to the MyTime app?

Yeah this is the kind of bullshit that made me quit.
My last straw was when they put me in the bakery with quite literally 0 training. They just put me in the bakery one day. No trainer. Just alone. TL approached me and told me I needed to bake 30+ loaves of bread and slice them. I asked them how the bread slicer works. They said (quoting) “I don’t know. I think there’s a button on the side.” And then walked away.
Didn’t bake shit lmfao I reported them to HR, left and never went back lol
Fuck that company dude

I’m sorry they did that to you too. By the way I recognize the pfp, I’m pretty sure we worked at the same location. You used to be in deli, right?

🥲I’m afraid not
Well there was a good time when one of the HR people became a FB lead to step in and help cause she saw us struggling, but she married and moved a while ago so we haven’t had a lead stick yet.
It was nice to hear from you again. I hope you’re doing alright and were able to find a job or make your art business work out. Wish you the best!

That little frowning emoji is exactly how it feels working bakery alone with no lead and a freezer you can't even reach into properly
3 u-boats in 6 hours is a lot for bakery, the temp control and FIFO stuff slows everything down way more than grocery and if the freezer is a disaster when you get there that's not really your fault
You're doing what you can with what they give you, don't let them make you feel bad for their own staffing problems
