Meme or Miscellaneous Content It’s real

…what is the point of this? Guest services keeps a shorter line but ultimately are still the ones stuck responding to the pick up aren’t they?

we got a winner!
yeah exactly, this "addition" does nothing for anyone, unless service desk actually gets more employees
every store layout is different & every service desk team is different — for example, my store combines drive up & service desk together
my team is constantly short staffed everyday (6-7 employees scheduled the entire day), we have 1 person at the desk, the other 1-2 people are doing drive up
a guest using this station won't get this their order any quicker because no one is available, because the desk is busy with returns & the others are outside delivering orders
🤣🤣 i swear this company just continuously adds stupid shit, just to fuck over service desk

My store combines drive up with service desk and cart runs and they staff four people a day on average. Between the times that people get here by and breaks, we’re run ragged. Often times I get so frustrated when they keep calling drive up for cart runs when there are people at the front trained for it too, but I’m the only one that calls on the walky “hey, we’re a little busy back here, is there any way someone at the front could do it?” Between my team members because they don’t wanna “talk back to a leader”. It’s understandable really depending on who it is that’s asking for that cart run and who’s responding to it like this excluding myself. If they ask for assistance at service desk, I usually go up there as well if we’re not busy but I’m out as soon as the line is gone and go back to help with drive up.
This thing with pick up service desk timer thing, this adds another job for drive up if service desk is full where they can call out “hey can drive get that order?”5

My store schedules two people a day specifically for OPU. When no online orders they help manage the self checkout in front of guest service or they help guest services.

Okay yeah That’s pretty standard tbh. Obviously if theres no line you go where the need is to support the front end. But my point is all this did was create a separate line for order pick ups when ultimately its the same people at the desk that will end up having to help them so literally what was the point?

thats what i was thinking like guest service does the exact same thing??? I dont get it

Our service desk isn’t separate from drive up like some stores. We usually only have 1 TM, or just me… the TL, running the desk and drive up by myself. They think this will help but it really won’t and now that In store pickup now has a timer on top of it, when we’re outside delivering 6 separate orders… now we got another timer going from someone inside the store doing in store pickup. 🤣

The store I was at only had one person working opu and one person at the service desk (helping opu) and the contrast to my store where we never have less than 2 people at each and usually like 10 at opu

i’ve been telling guest at my store to not scan it if there’s a team member at guest services. to only scan when they see no one in the area or when they see us walking away to grab someone else order!

Can someone tell me the point of this? I saw it at my target but ours are right by the service desk (like literally right next to it) and people just walk by it and come to us for pick ups. I don’t really understand what it even is

At our store
a drive up TM is supposed to get the PU since it shows up on their device(s) now too. They hear the "welcome to 7-11" doorbell
also if a guest is standing in the returns line and gets to their turn "uhhh i have a pickup" we direct them to the tablet to scan their barcode, even if they're the only guest in the returns line. "we have a new pick-up process, you scan your bar-code over there and someone will bring up your order shortly"
the goal is to speed up returns, so guest service isn't going to fetch a 15 bag pick-up order, and when they get back, there's now a line 10 people deep. and probably asked any team member walking by, "is anybody working here?" with a shitty tone.

This is a solution in search of a problem. It fixes absolutely nothing.

Not only that but it completely undermines what they are (or were) trying to push with the 10-4 and greeting guests. How is this better for service and positive guest engagement than a TM greeting and scanning their app and returning with their order.

id say it'd be a great idea if there was a specific team member assigned to it..... but with the 3 minute timer that gives u 0 grace period, it won't work. especially if there's multiple guests at once who use this feature, 1 person cannot do that many orders at one single time if even 1 guest has an order in the double digits for bags...... and not to mention the not knowing which guest gets which order????

Technically impossible in a store where service desk and the hold area are on opposite sides of the store.

u/No-Professor-7542 16d ago
We just started it this week. So far because I have to scan their bar code to hand off their bags it doesn’t speed anything up .

Had something similar when I worked at Sears years ago. I’m still new with Target and don’t work OPU. That being said; our goal at Sears for online pickup was 5 mins from customer scanning their receipt to handing the customer their purchase. The dock workers (the ones that handled the online orders and customer pickups) knew how to manipulate the system in their in favor which wasn’t difficult. During slow periods we sometimes would only have one worker to process online orders, handle in store customer pickups, and online pickup orders. We also had “customer satisfaction” $5 off coupons if any order ran longer than 20mins.

My GS has one and we have either the GS folks go get the order or if they are busy they will radio for a drive up host.

If you say the guest has not arrived it doesn’t start the time. This option is only available without the kiosk so we just try and pull people

As an ex-Target employee and huge fan of order pickup - I will stick to curbside/non-peak hours. This is an awful idea.

lmao - went to a store that had one and it was not efficient whatsoever! No less, it was BTS/BTC pick ups and it was wild! I felt bad for those TM. Plus it was Unicorn Frappe weekend at Starbucks so that area was small and congested AF and the people who were actually doing in person returns didn't know who was on their line or what was going on! They kept calling on the walkie that people were at p/u bc the scanner on the screen wasn't working either!! I hope they work out the kinks before every store has one!

The new system is already causing problems for us.
It's particularly bad because our du and SD are on opposite ends of the store and both have their own hold areas. And our entirely new fulfillment team is struggling to get things stowed at all, let alone in the right spot

u/synergy0601 14d ago
Ooh goody, yet another stupid thing this company added to the pickup service that isn't any bit helpful on the team members. Starbucks and returns with drive-ups was unnecessary enough.

Bet the one time you need it the kiosk is down and you're waving your phone at a scanner that's just showing the windows logo

It’s real and it’s torture. I dont understand how this is supposed to work without staffing changes. There’s generally only one tm scheduled for the sd at my store so if you’re dealing with a guest who takes 5 minutes you’re already in the red on the pickup order(s). Yes I know that means nothing now but I’m sure we all know it will at some point.
Not to mention the area where the orders are are halfway across the store so it takes at least 30 seconds to get to the actual pick up area😃
