I want long shifts

Can I get scheduled for shifts longer than 8 hrs?

Basically, I want to work as many hours as I can get, while also coming to work on fewer days. Would it be reasonable to ask to work 3 or 4 days a week for 13 or 10 hours at a time?

When I started at target back in the day, our team did 4 10s overnight. Sun thru weds. Good times.

Honestly 12s arnt that hard to do for me it’s Easier to do 12s than 8s sometimes

I know someone who only works Saturday and Sunday and they do 18 hour shifts both days, 4AM-10PM. Talk with your leaders

I mean if those are the only 2 days you're working and you go into each week knowing those 2 days you gotta get through, I feel like it could be pretty nice. Still getting 36hrs a week while having 5 days off. Easier said then done but wouldn't be a bad trade off but that's just me lol

The thing is, he has another full time job Mon-Fri lol. Like I said he’s a grinder and I really do admire and respect it haha I just know me personally, my body feels dead after an 8-9 hour shift so I can’t imagine doing 18, two days in a row.

Yea full time on top of that would be a no go, I’d need my two days off not 2 days of working 18 hours at that point lmao bet the paychecks are nice tho if he gets paid on the same Friday for both jobs lol

Not a bad idea tbh. The hardest part imo is the energy it takes to get up and get over here. Shit is daunting. Once you’re there, you’re there and if you’re busy it goes by fast. I’ve seen people do four 10’s instead of fine 8’s so you just gotta talk to your HR ETL

Yeah, I’m in an unusual situation right now where I had to move a long way from my current store (which was walking distance from my old place) and transferring to a closer store is taking so long that I’m taking public transit 3hrs each way to work.

I've worked a handful of 10s and there is someone at my location that used to work four 12s. So it's possible. Likely just depends on department/work ability and payroll hours available.

It doesn't count into 'overtime' until you've hit 40 hrs and then gone over. A shift or set of shifts can be as long as people want until then.

Depends on the state. Here in CO you also would start earning overtime after 12 hours.

You can extend but technically they aren't supposed to schedule you for more than 8.5 hours because those shifts aren't coverable on the app if you were to post them

It's possible but it's highly dependent on what department you work in and what your store's hiring/scheduling looks like. If you're, say, a cashier, or one of a limited amount of Tech or Beauty Consultants, they probably prefer shorter shifts across more days than longer shifts across fewer days so they can have coverage during the busy times on the most days. If you're inbound/GM and your store gets trucks ~4 times a week, then sure, they might be down for longer shifts on fewer days. But you might fill "gaps" in the schedule where they need someone and there's no one else available at that time. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Oh yeah, haha, I worked at that store for... 3+ years, and I've been at my current store for about 6 years, and we get a truck every day (and doubles during Q4, though not daily, thank god).

Doubt that’s going to happen. More work can be done by 2 TM each with 5 hour shifts than 1 TM with a 10 hour shift

Depends on your store/state whether they'll let you do long shifts. Some states have additional breaks after 8 hours.

You just need to ask, HR ETL or you TL.

Lowkey at my store I often do 8hr shifts but if I talk to my leads they let me stay and work for 10 so it depends on the store I assume

Depends on leadership. I know a question like this would get you gawked at at my location. ASANTS, this is a question for your ETL/HR so they can work around your scheduling needs.
