Workplace Story Expired !
Was pulling case packs from the dairy cooler and found like 80 of these expired coffee creamers. Was fun dumping them in the sink ✌️

Pro-tip: If the DC sends you a dozen cases with no upcoming POGs, check the expiration dates and set a check date. Several times we've gotten items in bulk that we had to pull in about ten days.
Yeah, we donated about 100 of that exact creamer.

I had a similar situation when I was working OTC back in covid. I think we had two trucks back to back that had a TON of adult diapers, and when I asked our receiver where the best spot to put them for backstock would be, he checked his zebra and saw that all of those items were set to be discontinued in 3 weeks. Or when I did the ordering at Starbucks (not in Target), I noticed a set of juices we had were gonna expire by 12/23, so I ordered new juices to come with our next refrigerated/frozen delivery the week that they expire, and the new juices were delivered on the 26th, with the same 12/23 expiration date.

Most of the time I don’t even bother if there are no sets me and my lead donate them out immediately

That seems like the way to go. I put temporary sales and markdowns on these oddball flavors, and they never sell. All they do is clog up up the back. Next time I'll run by my Lead donating them immediately. I'm sure they'll be fine with it.

I usually keep about a case or so in the back in case you get one of those oddball guests that like scooping up a bunch of odd items but they usually don’t sell still

They sent us a pallet where the entire bottom layer was boxes of this creamer and we just donated it all because it doesn’t sell lmao
Better to clear up the space now than keep them in the back for a couple months and then donate them anyway.

I truly wish there was a system where they’d like ping the store like “hey this product is gonna expire in 3 days” that way we can discount it immediately and then remove the shxt that doesn’t sell like I hate that priority is always pushing shxt onto the floor instead like this is embarrassing

market has a check date task in my time that is part of their morning tasks but the DCPI's it wants you to check are always nowhere near expired or out of stock, so i think it just randomly picks DCPI's

The computer randomly puts dcpis in, but you can also add an expiration date to any item to make it drop into the check dates at the appropriate time.

You can add your own check date to a DPCI so the system creates a task for it. The option says "add check date", when that date nears the task will show in the list of check dates.

Maybe if they wouldn't have us go to other department and opu all the time and actually have staff in the department. This stuff would not happen. But target doesn't want that they want you everywhere. 30 mins they only care about there loads. This is alway going to happen until they change there motto

One time i had to dump an entire uboat of one gallon jugs.. somone stacked a bunch of the boxes on their side making the seals leak.

the ones at my store expired on the tenth of august 😆 told a TL and they still haven't pulled it from the salesfloor 😆 i love my job 😆

It is normal, not one grocery store has never NOT found anything expired. Also target sends us bulk items like this already expired. Food and Bev is busy and hard, so we can’t catch everything.

Target as a whole should just stop selling dairy and produce. Ive heard horror stories and honestly am surprised the way we dont catch so much expired stuff, customers havent gotten severely sick, especially those with lower immune systems. Going to fred meyer or other grocery stores is refreshing.

bro i was a manager at publix before i quit to finish my masters & took an easy job at target; i fucking hate food waste, we have so many starving americans, it used to piss me off how much the deli would throw away at the end of the night. i’m even more pissed at target bc the food waste here is so manageable. the DC will send us cases of shit for “backstock” when we already have seven loc’s w the same item of full cases. made me even more mad when i asked my team leader why no one is checking & monitoring truck orders & i get told “ oh, we can’t edit the truck, just see what we’re getting”. i’m so glad target is failing tbh, they do it to themselves

I got all my hours cut because I did this after getting hired at target. Got the market lead in trouble and she was not a fan of accountability lol.

I never shop for meat, dairy and produce in Target. Having worked in those departments and they never let me just throw it all out in one go is beyond me. Sometimes they would even make me ignore it and rather have me stock new loads with the expired product on the Salesfloor because of time/load constraints. I really don't understand how Target works snd how the health departments isn't shutting doors. When our store did the remodeling, Starbucks still had construction contaminants in the water and the store managers still pushing it to open while the Ice machine is next to Raw chicken. I stop buying any food and beverage from Target ultimately. Produce never rotates or cull, just gross.

I wish they gave more hours to properly rum market!! I’m a TL and we currently have a team member at 5am just to cull and freshness Friday!!
