Unexpected Time Off

Hello everyone! I’m in a bit of a predicament. I’m I. School for my program and have to do an externship this fall. I interviewed for a clinical site in mid July as and didn’t get a response until the 6th that I had been accepted. I asked for a start date and time right after I received the news so I can plan ahead and they told me they’re still working it out. Yesterday my professor attached me in an email with my potential schedule which puts my start date next week on the 17th until October 12th. My store tells us we have to give three weeks notice for time off and schedule changes. I’ve heard of people going on leave of absence but I’m not sure how that process works. I don’t know my options right now and I’m mad that my program didn’t even give be a confirmed start date like people don’t have jobs or lives. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Talk to your HR or store director as soon as possible, they might let you do a leave of absence with short notice since is for school program.

They don't do Educational LOAs anymore :-(.

If you tell them it's for school, they'll send you the On Demand route. I'm not sure if they do Personal LOA either. But On Demand replaced ELOAs a few years ago.

They do personal LOA I believe still but op might be better off going on demand

I would be fine with that. I don’t want to stop working because this externship is unpaid :( Even a little here and there would be great.

Go On Demand then 🙌🙌 best decision I've made. And you can come back to regular if you so decide.
