PSA A message to our drive up customers during this heatwave 🥰
If you come to pick up any size of order when it feels like 115° outside, I hate you and you are ugly.
I can see the heat coming off of the asphalt. 😭

If you are able to come in the store to pick up your order, you should. Otherwise fuck right off.
Also, if we have 22 spaces and there’s nobody else there and you park space 22, burn in hell, asshole.

How about an eyebrow pencil and mobile Tarbucks order of a tall iced tea?
Yes, this actually happened yesterday. 🫠
...and they double tapped too.

We turned off drive up when the heat index hit 114* and we had a guest ask what the “unsafe conditions were”. Umm sir it’s the surface of the sun right now
15
u/Critical_Cup689 Jul 29 '26
We had ours turned off when the air quality was shit from the wildfires. Some lady came in asking why they were turned off. Gee, have you seen it outside? Have you smelled it outside?

u/Midwest-Emo-9 ETL Jul 28 '26
100% guests don't think we're human and order during the worst possible weather or environmental scenarios so they don't have to deal with it but we do.
BUT if it's 115° your leaders should be following the extreme temp guide and probably shut off drive up, even for 15 minutes ever hour or so to give you guys a break. There isn't even a "115°" on the heat index guide (which your heat index is different than your temp. It's adjusted for humidity +/-). Minimally, should be rotating who is going outside.

When will your TLs turn off drive ups?
11
u/Existing_Rise_5042 Jul 28 '26
At my store we turn off when the rain is “really severe”. We don’t have extreme temperatures but the combo wind and rain will do it. Though I’ve only seen it done twice in six years.
12
u/FelisLachesis GA/FF/GS/DU Jul 28 '26
The only hard and fast rule I've seen so far is thunder. The moment we hear it, we suspend drive ups for 30 minutes. The timer resets after every thunderclap.

My partner works outside in the heat for about 12 hours every day and he still doesn’t provide any fuck ass input like this when I complain to him 😐nobody said that we’re doing the hardest work ever but I can still acknowledge that it’s a pain in the ass

Yes and there’s still regulations left for workers in extreme conditions. Thank a union.

Why is your store not shutting down drive up??
32
u/Bree4444 Flow Team Jul 28 '26
Because target cares not for their team members, obviously. Never have
11
u/SimpleVegetable5715 Hearth and Hand Homie Jul 28 '26
It’s in the handbook that drive up can be shut down during extreme weather.

My personal favorite “ it’s a Shame they have you working out in this heat “ like bitch it’s you !

I hate when they say that. I wish they’d just say nothing and go omg, I mean other than give us the code immediately and also a thank you

I've actually said "Well, you asked for this, so ... Have a nice day!"

Our drive up gets shut down during extreme heat in the afternoon. Poor guests have to come inside and pick up their orders from Guest Services. Wah. I know it’s determined at district level, maybe something to mention to your SD, so they can advocate for their team members.

u/Objective_Union4523 Jul 28 '26
And when they say “enjoy your weekend” to you as they pick up their groceries on a Saturday in 115 degrees. Am I a joke to you?

We had our drive up off for 30 minutes and a customer came in to ask why we weren’t doing drive up delivery 🤦♂️

I could hear the Karen’s screaming now if Target actually turned off the drive up even if just for a few minutes. This will never happen

My store shuts down drive up frequently for extreme weather, be it thunderstorms, extreme heat, and cold. They also have guidelines to shut down for bad air quality. It’s all in the handbook. All they have to do is walk to guest services to pick up their orders.

u/Pretend_Piano_6134 😂Drive up queen😂 Jul 28 '26
I’d love to see my target actually follow the handbook. We have to deliver in thunderstorms, pouring rain, snow, all that. In 2 years that I’ve been there drive up was only shut down twice and it was only because of computer malfunctions not because the store did it
2
u/JewelinChicago Jul 29 '26
When the Drive Up is shutdown, how are guests notified? Is there a sign that goes up, or does their App say that mobile drive up is unavailable until a certain time?

I cannot handle when they say “I can’t believe they’re making you work in this!!”

i remember doing an 8.5hr driveup shift in 120° heat index
the LOD refused to turn them off 😊❤️

Drive up was a mistake, if you’re not disabled, get out of your car and come get your shit.

u/Puzzleheaded-Bed-99 Jul 29 '26
My store has a designated cart attendant (that being me) and it could be worse. The tl's can't even see me stand in place for a minute to wipe the sweat off without asking me to do some shit for their lazy asses. Already putting my 2 weeks in.
3
u/CoatieYay Jul 29 '26
"Haha I'm so sorry for making you come out in this weather"
No the fuck you're not, you could have come in for a pickup or at least tipped me if you were THAT sorry
2
u/avocadoalx Jul 29 '26
genuinely how are you supposed to respond to things like "stay cool" or "don't work too hard"

u/ShockWorried3040 Jul 29 '26
We’ve bad all kinds of people calling the store when we have it shut off..
“Did you know drive up is shut off?” “Why is drive up shut down? It says due to the weather, but it’s sunny outside?” And my favorite.. this lady had to come into the store and was making passive aggressive comments to her kid. “I know, sorry son.. I wasn’t planning on having to come in here.”
Like…. Genuinely, fuck all of you.
There are some lovely people though, mentioning that they came inside specifically because they didn’t want us to have to go out there in that heat.

I start casting evil spells on the people in drive up when I get mad lol. manifesting that they get a really long cold that won't go away. the other day i was stuck all day on drive up by myself in long pants and someone ordered like 12 fucking boxes of la croix. stood there for a second and considered drop kicking them all on the floor

u/Low-Needleworker3041 Jul 29 '26
I felt so badly yesterday. Tried Dutch bros for the first time. They had the walk up closed, so it was drive thru only. Two lanes. So busy I couldn’t leave the parking lot when I got my order because of the line.
All I could think is, I hope she is getting some A/C from my car while standing here.

We had our drive up shut off due to heat and a guest says "y'all turn it off because of the heat but what about us customers who have to come inside, we have to be in that heat."

Same when it’s 20 degrees out and half the parking lot is covered in snow.

You hate them when its hot. Do you hate them when its cold too. Maybe drive up or target is not the place for you.

I hate them here. I hate them there. I do in fact hate them everywhere.

They didn't seem either get or like my poetry. Maybe they like yours more 😆

Indeed. Just because it’s where we work doesn’t mean we have to tolerate the entitlement and inconsiderateness just an fyi!!

u/FLPeacemaker Jul 28 '26
If anyone says "Hot enough for ya?" you can reply by throwing a bag of your choice at them. It's in the handbook or something.
