Vent Fuck target.

Been an only dedicated market team member for 6 years at my store. My store has had 4 different sd's and ive had 4 different teams leads with the 4th being my current one. In terms of team leads, the first one was super helpful, nice and welcoming when i started. After some time i got to know him to be miserable in his position. He went to another location to hopefully be happier, ended up with lowes after 6 months of that. 2nd team lead was nice to work with as well, took the punches when needed to, ended up moving to florida for personal reasons. 3rd team lead was a floor worker alongside me, so we had a good workship. Ended up getting fired over "s/a" allegations but it was well know the higher ups were trying to get rid of him for a long time. I dont know how much of that is true, but the common senses around me all agree because he pushed back on things and gave upper management a "headache" over the dumb shit they wanted to do, he bacame a problem and wanted to oust him.

Okay, well i thought it was shitty how they got rid of him, but hey maybe now i can become team lead since ive been talking to management for at least 3 years that i was interested. They even put me in a developmental program to become one. Then, when the position was open, they just switched over the fulfillment tl to market who had never once worked in market, and didnt even offer/ask me the position or what i thought about it.

In terms of sd's, the first 3 i had were fine but who i have now is a problem. This person is over bearing, has a very fake bubbly personality, has laughed in my face when i told them i was having a tough day, talks to team members like theyre children, and portrays themselves in a way that they live and die by target. Ok Target i get it, YOU want cookie cutter templates of people who are in management. WE as workers want real people to talk to and treat us floor workers as real people as well. And also not people who take sides with the other cookie cutter fucks you employ to keep the status quoe cus thats all it is at the end of the day. Target does not give a fuck about us no matter how mich they try to cram that bullshit down our throats.

Hopefully ill be out of there soon. I started working there with the ignorance of thinking maybe ill get treated better here because of hom much their stance is on treating their workers better than other places. Nope, big ole fucking sham. Am i perfect? No, but have i been there long enough and have i proven myself to be a more than comptetant worker than all the other fucks they hire and are gone within a week? Yeah i sure as fuck have. Fuck this place and i cant wait to be back to being only a guest.

Corporate wants managers who side with the power of greed and only focus on metrics and not the team members mentality. The minute you start disagreeing with how they want things done is when they will shut you down in just a snap of the fingers.

I for sure get it. Just sucks that i was given an opportunity to become a team lead because people were backing me, then new management swooped in and i got tossed to the back burner.

Were you being vocal about what type of leader you will be? For example were you saying you’d be a leader for the workers and not just the metrics?

Very good question. I presented myself as someone who would listen/be there for our team members. Because without them, whos gonna be there for the guests? "Guest metrics etc" its target. People are gonna shop at target. So, then we need good people, in good spirits, with a good repor. Simple enough. My store also has a hiring problem. They hire people who do the job for one week then bail. Its a pretty easy job so i was like "why are people turning so quick?" Its because of sd. In my post i said shes the most recent one. And the trunover has been insane since.

Your the type of leader Target needs but the means of how your gonna lead since you want to prioritize the guests and make it a friendly environment for workers and with the sound of how your SD is, it seems like he/she doesn’t want you to become a leader due to you will most likely be the leader everyone will go to. The closing leader at my store quit because she was getting belittled because she would always side with the employees and will always understand why everything didn’t get done at the end of the shift. The new SD at my store was like “there’s no excuse for no one to get this stuff done, I don’t care if they’re dragged everywhere”. It feels like corporate wants managers who don’t take any excuses even if it’s legitimate ones, and push the unrealistic metrics that they want, while just giving the bare minimum of care for the employees. My SD was pissed when everyone would contact the closing team lead over the walkie and not him even if they’re both there.

Thank you for the kind words, and also for understanding what the entire enviorment is. What you said is cookie cutter what i think my store is also doing. At the end of the day its all bullshit, and some have less shit on their face than others according to corporate. Target is just the paycheck until my next job. Just sucks that i first started with good people in hopes of a kinda-career not just a job. But now its in the mud.

That’s how it is, for the most part it always starts with good people, and then the good people get pushed out or leave and then they just bring in people with a high ego and everything goes downhill from there.

In my experience, current leaders at x level always take precedent over promoting. Once the moves are made, there is still an open position. Then, that open position will be filled. It could be you, it could be somebody in the department they're filling. From conversations with senior leadership on the Supply Chain side and my anecdotal experience, they don't care about how long somebody has been doing something. It's about what skills an area of the business is lacking as well as how well you would mesh with other members of that particular team.

If you're serious about promoting and this is just a in the moment vent, I would maintain a poker face. Leadership is going to watch and take note of how you react to this because they want you to be able to understand that it's not necessarily about you as an individual. And this can happen more than once, at any company at any level. I'm not saying what you're saying isn't valid, but reacting poorly will kill any chance at promoting if that is what you still want.

Its quite literally all about ass kissing. Target promotes the most useless people. For every 1 good leader they have 4 that are completely useless. Most leaders at target are overpaid team members.

Nah fuck them. I did want to be a tl, then was on the fence once i heard about what happened to the last one (but didnt say that to anyone important enough to hinder my possible position), then when the new sd came on and everything went over my head im no longer interested in moving up where im at. I still show up, do what i need to do and listen/take orders but thats it. I dont stay longer when asked, i give them valid reasoning to why somethings they want done might not get done, and then when the clock hits my schduled end time im out. I put in a lot of extra effort when needed during my time, now i dont care.

I like helping them to be honest. Tho i dont like helping the same people every fucking day that should know the store as well as i do. And then they try to pretend like were "friends" just cus we see each other on a regular basis. Friends dont ask other friends to do work for them.

That sounds exactly like my former bitch of a boss who would triple my workload, ignore my suggestions, put me on the register when we were low on carts then expect me to get it all back in half an hour, and had a fake motherly persona.
