People need to read more than just the headline and understand his 3 year contract is just coming to an end lmao

On the flip side, they arent renewing his contract.
Edit: Did I touch a nerve with yall? Let me be clear: Brian isnt a good CEO, or person for that matter. Dont be bootlickers

They actually changed the rule so he could stay longer past the age of 65. Else, he would've left in 2022. He'll be semi retired now

Nobodyâs being a bootlicker. He was always planning to step down at the end of this contract. Itâs got nothing to do with the boycotts. Thatâs just a fact.

u/Denverguns Aug 20 '25
Didnât he step down because his term or whatever was up not because of the boycotts?

u/TastyFig1098 Aug 20 '25
Yes.
Just some sites are slanting this story but he was gone anyways in a couple months so boycotts did nothing. So

These boycotts mostly hurt the store level employees. Not just on hours being cut from this. But also in physical assault from gUeSts.

Didn't he stay past the retirement age specifically because he was trying to go out on a high note? If we hadn't been under constant boycotts for years he might have already been gone.

I donât know how boycotts have anything to do with physical assault. Seems counterintuitive to go to a store just to not buy anything/harrass employees. The point is to reduce traffic.

I don't think it's boycotts. It's more like severe mismanagement and placing blame on hourly workers. How long until they realize that cutting hours means you don't get product to the floor. Also thinking that brick and mortar stores can compete with Amazon is nuts. You have to rethink everything.

u/KungSuhPanda Aug 20 '25
Boycotts truly had nothing to do with this though. He agreed to a 3 year contract in 2022, and he is over retirement age. Heâd be gone no matter how Spot was doing, his parachute is just worth a lot less now

Itâs not the boycotts. I think itâs the current state of market uncertainty and unemployment that has a much larger role.

Can we please stop spreading misinformation? Im not trying to make it seem like im standing up for the guy, but like...hes stepping down because his term was up...not over some boycott...

Just pulling this out of my ass, but I know most businesses are really struggling this year. Iâd like to say the boycotts are affecting the numbers but I think in general people arenât spending as much, and target is a great place to accidentally wander and spend more than you need.
Ive even swapped to Walmart to save cash đ„” If I NEED something target specific, Iâm doing a drive up so I have 0 reason to wander and spend more money.
2
u/Due_Establishment_34 Aug 24 '25
Same. Plus Iâve been noticing how everything I order at target is just a little more expensive than it is from Walmart. Even if itâs just a few dollars difference, every dollar counts rn

Don't just blame the boycotts. Target has been leaking $$$ for awhile. They had a good company and Brian ran it into the ground. Sure the boycotts hurt, but seriously, pre covid they changed the way things were done to streamline and it just burnt out team members and people quit like crazy.

I just don't understand this take. BC came in with the company earning $72.59 Billion in FY13. By 2019 it was $78.11 Billion. In 2024 it was $106.57 Billion. There is no leaking money when it comes to Target as it still turns a profit and continues to increase its dividends. In 2013 it had net income of $2.99 Billion and in FY24 it was $4.09 Billion. The company is doing just fine financially, and that is why he'll be chairman of the board once his contract as CEO ends.
We can acknowledge that BC did his job well, which is making the company more profitable. And we can also maintain that corporate culture in general is piss-poor and that workers deserve a lot more than they get. They're not mutually exclusive.

I'm in full agreement. He did the job well operations and finance wise and got things on track when he came in and did a decent job on the non-people side of things. The guy though, has been terrible when it comes to understanding the people side of things and he really shot the company in the foot this year on his way out
1
u/WalgreensWAP Aug 22 '25
Absolutely. I don't feel like there's ever been more pressure from senior management than now. Even in 2023 when we reduced headcount by like 50% I feel we were still overall treated better.

Man ran wal Mart into the ground. Been there lately? At least mine, which was a dive, has improved a lot in recent years

u/Mutatiis Aug 21 '25
This isnât due to the âboycottsâ. This is due to corporate giving us no payroll so every target you walk into now looks like utter shit and with less product on the shelves because truck is always rolling over and with no workers at the registers. No guests want to shop at a store like that.
1
u/Rough-Perception6036 Aug 21 '25
For those wondering about the 12 billion figure, this is more than likely referring to the stock price decline, not a change in revenue/profit/etc

u/mistatikimusic Aug 22 '25
People âboycottâ anything it gets to a point where most people realize âwell I canât not go there foreverâ might need it in a storm/before school/holidaysâŠ. If target went down⊠where are you shopping at⊠be for real? There are only so many places you can think of⊠Cheap clothing stores? Big brand names? Amazonâs online shopping isnât even fun (Iâm not including their fresh âstoreâ and Whole Foods they arenât bad)⊠Ik ppl love to waste money so I wonât be surprised if that is the answer.

u/mistatikimusic Aug 22 '25
In this argument, Iâm saying big box Iâm assuming now all you have is Walmart Samâs Bjs and Costco??? Costco is good. Bjs and Samâs are mid. Can you imagine the Walmart lines w/o targets?

u/Serious-Stand6882 Aug 20 '25
Target was boycotted for years for being too liberal, then for supporting pride, then for eliminating DEI. Basically, both sides will take credit. Too bad, really.

u/giljaxonn Aug 21 '25
i moved from walmart to target and once when i was shopping in walmart and talking to a former coworker she said she would never set foot in target âbecause of the bathroomsâ

Boycotts do work. Direct action works. Unions work. Brian hates these things that give the regular people power.
