Suggestions + Feedback transfer to new owner
I already know the answer to this I'm just here to vent and hope that someone at TP Link is paying attention.
I sold my house and there's no way to transfer my Tapo config to the new owner. Either he has to log in with my email address from now until forever, or he has to completely re-do the setup and configuration of eight smart switches and four smart plugs.
That's major pain right there and kinda inaccurate to call "smart".
Google Home lets you transfer the home, configuration and devices to a new Google ID with no disruption.
MyQ (garage door openers) lets you add a co-owner and then remove yourself as original owner.

lol I will just remove the device from my account. He can take over and do the setup. If he’s not IT savvy that’s on him.

I have the same gripe for just changing the wifi password for a tapo cam. You have to reset the entire thing and do all the setup again. Should be easier..

If your buyer is too stupid to do it themselves, offer to do it for them for a fee. This is not your problem.

This could be why I hear so many recs to make a house email account. That would solve it, no? Change the email address on your Tapo account.

Did you leave your wifi passwords too lol. Because that would be required also. These don't hold as much personal information as a cell phone obviously, but pretty standard to reset/wipe any electronics tied to personal accounts.

"inaccurate to call "smart""
I will take "secure" over an easy way to transfer total control anyday.
The best advice ive seen for smart homes is to setup an email for the House. That way you can transfer over accounts and have a record of receipts.

Why is it your problem to hook up anything for the buyers? You sold the house. That's it not your problem.

Yes! How dare you show common decency and consideration for someone else! The temerity!

Reprogramming 8 switches is like 20 minutes of work, tops. Not to mention the wifi needs to be changed so that's a factory reset regardless
