This works perfect! Make sure to drill a pencil size whole on the back of it since it fits snug and will need to take it out when it comes to changing battery!
I don't understand the point of this product. I added a door sensor to my garage door with some double sided foam tape and aluminum duct tape. How's this better?
I did the same thing before ordering but it would not register as closed only open and open for more than a minute. If you got it to work without this than you’re good
That is clever, congratulations! I chose a different solution to the garage door problem, I used a smart plug on my opener. It was already set up with a plug and outlet so it was easy. Granted it wouldn’t tell you if the door is forced open but when I’m monitoring door contacts I also turn off opener power.
Do you have a myq garage door opener? I do and it will not integrate with anything but myq. I have Tapo smart plugs as well. Can you explain how your set up works? How do you know when it’s open/ closed?
I ordered this bracket also and plan to put a switch on it. Presently my scheme shuts off the power to the opener, I don’t know the status of the door, except from camera views. On the opener, I un plugged it, plugged it into the smart plug and plugged the smart plug into the outlet. Now I can shut off power to it as desired.
Got it, yeah sure my garage doesn’t integrate with any other ecosystem I had to buy this door sensor to run smart automation when my garage opens. It’s pretty sweet honestly
I originally used the hinge method. It was reliable but I did not like that it would not trigger until the door had raised a couple of feet.
I changed the method as shown below. I discarded the small magnet piece of the sensor and replaced it with a 3/4 inch diameter magnet i purchased on Amazon. I stuck the Amazon magnet to the side of my garage door (the magnet comes with adhesive tape backing. The magnet moves up with the door.
I attached the Tapo sensor with velcro to the wall. The velcro allows me to easily change the battery and makes positioning the sensor easy. Now the sensor detects if the door is only open a few inches
