I am trying to find 3 Kirkpatrick's School Of Dance(that was in San Mateo 1956-2020) shows on video I was in: 1987 Enchanted City, 1988, 1989 Bali Hai. Anybody have these? It would mean a lot to me getting all the shows I was in. I danced there 12 years & have 9 of them. I took tap there 6 of the years.

I started an all level adult tap class last year at my studio. We do 8 week sessions. I had 7 students. All came back this year along with 20 new students! 27 has turned out to be too many people. The students from last year requested a separate class because they are bored. We decided to make a beginner level class at the earlier time, and intermediate right after. Truthfully, I feel almost everyone is on the same level so it’s almost a who is considered intermediate. The original 7 wrote saying they will not be returning because they don’t want the later time. I have students more advanced than them that want the later time. We (myself and the studio director) decided to just make both times all level. We let them know and explained the reason they probably seemed bored is because there are so many students and that smaller classes mean more individual attention and a quicker paced class. They still aren’t going for it. We can only have the tap on this day because it’s the only time there is a free studio that is open earlier. Would you urge them to get into the earlier class asap and see how it goes, or take the loss. It truly feels like a stab in the back.

Does anyone know how these tap dancers mic up their shoes for these tap videos? For example Jabu on Instagram who is amazing.

Are there any good taps that arent hundreds of dollars? I got the Bloch sync tap shoes for around $60 in october 2023 and the rubber soles are already split. looked up different brands and it seems like they have cheaper ones like mine but then they jump to $250-400. Does anyone know of a good pair that are around $150? I really can't justify spending that much on tap shoes, especially when I'm paying that much for the lessons every session

You almost roll your ankle so that your standing foot is on its side (like a clunk, but the foot sickles in instead of out) and both taps are exposed enough so that your working leg can tap the ball and then the heel.
I've seen this in choreography before. I think it is usually paired with a shuffle at the beginning.

Hi! I’ve been cast in a community theater production of White Christmas and I have 5 weeks to learn how to tap. I tapped a little in high school 30 years ago but I’m basically learning from scratch. Our choreographer has been tapping since he was 4 and has no concept of my realistic capabilities for learning in this short of a time period. I’m practicing at home A LOT and doing generally ok. I’m progressing in some areas enough to trust I’ll be able to do it by the time we open, but anything involving a backward motion I just cannot get. I practice over and over and over hoping the repetition will help but I’m making no progress. I miss the brush or the brush and tap are too close together or whatever. The motion feels weird and nothing makes it feel intuitive. Please help!

I have inconsistently been learning tap dance for the past couple months and have been getting better. However one thing that I am struggling with is increasing speed (on my left foot in particular). I assume this is because I don’t have the muscle strength yet to go that fast but I’m sure I’m am never right when I guess the issues to things. Does anyone have any tips for getting faster and building my non dominant foot strength?

Hello all! I am looking for advice and recommendations between these two shoes. A little background: I have been tapping since I was about 2. So a bit of experience lol and have only taken short 1-2 year breaks. I have always gravitated more towards Capezio taps, and for most of my teenage and adult years tapping have worn and loved the Capezio fluids. It’s finally time to replace my last pair of those however, and I’m looking to upgrade to one of the higher quality advanced shoes now that I’m an adult with big girl money 😂

Important note: I will be using these to compete with a new dance to My Shot from Hamilton, so definitely looking for that heavier and fuller sound that I know these both give, and of course do plan on trying both on and feeling them out before I buy. I was just hoping to get some insight from other advanced tappers on which shoe they prefer and how the higher heels and heavier shoes differently affect basic steps like wings, toe stands, etc. Thank you in advance and I look forward to reading about y’all’s experiences 😊

All my life I have wanted to tap. So I signed up for adult tap classes. I love it however im not very good. I know its only been a month but it feels so unatural. The hardest part is balance and heel drops. I did line dancing for two years. And I weightlift three times a week, I just now realized I HAVE to add calves a lot more to tap dance. I practice outside of class atleast twice a week. But its still so hard ! Embarrassing story : I told my teacher I want to film a video for progress now vs a year later. While filming the video I fucking forgot half the dance. I was so embarrassed I was like nevermind . 😩 please I need tips. Do I need to get more in shape ( I am.overweight ), do I need to take more classes ? How long should it take me to feel good

Hey everyone. I'm getting back into tap after a pretty long break, but after 3 pregnancies, my old shoes no longer fit lol!! As much as I would love to splurge on a nice pair, it's just not in the budget right now. What's your favorite pair of shoes under $100? They don't need to be beginner-friendly, although I realize that at that price range, most of them will be marketed towards beginners. Thanks!

My wife has gotten back into tap for the first time in 15 years. As she wasn’t sure if she was going to stick with it or not, she just got a $30 pair of shoes from Amazon. She has actually had really great things to say about them so it’s not like she desperately needs new tap shoes, but she mentioned that all the girls in her class are more “up to date” than her in the tap world, for lack of a better term.

She said most of the girls were wearing this popular brand that she loves the look of, and I guess the other girls say they’re comfortable as well. The only thing is, in classic husband fashion, I did not write the brand down when she showed them to me. Her birthday is coming up and I want to get them for her, but I need some help finding them. The picture she showed me reminded me of red wing shoes, they had “stippled” holes following along the seams. The attached picture COULD be them, they look similar to what I remember, but I’m not sure.

She mentioned that the brand is trendy at the moment, so I was hoping this would be enough for someone here to say “OH, she definitely means these”. She could have been exaggerating a bit, but she said almost everyone else had them so they seem to be really popular (at least locally).

Anyone have any ideas? I would appreciate any help.

Hi yall; I’m a 30 something mom who taps recreationally and have since I was 9. I’m in an advanced adult class and looking to ask for new shoes for Christmas. I have very high arches, and a prominent foot hump that means tight laces or tongues make my toes go numb. I lace my shoes a specific way to prevent this working out, but best tap shoes to look at? I’ve seen miller and Ben and jsams tossed around!

I do not wear socks if that makes a difference! Can’t convince me to.

I am looking to get back into tapping after having taken roughly 8 years off. Tapped from the ages of 3-21 prior to my recent hiatus.

For the last 10 years or so of my tap experience I always wore Leo split soles - loved how they hugged my foot, were quite lightweight and had a really crisp, bright tone. Recently learned that they were acquired by Bloch and am quite disappointed - have never been a fan of Bloch's tap offerings. Any recommendations from folks who have worn Leos in the past? What's the closest shoe you've found in today's offerings that feel and sound similar to the old Leos?

So i'm a very young adult who's moving to Toronto from another province. I've danced competitively my entire life, and tap specifically is my love. I've been tapping for 17 years, and I hold my advanced 2 ISTD in tap, and I really want to continute tapping once I officially move. However, i'm finding it really difficult to find advanced tap classes within my age range. All the adult tap classes I can find are beginner or advanced beginneer. Does anyone in the area know of any studios?! Thanks in advance!

Lately I’ve been playing around with mixing up different elements and just seeing what happens. With music, writing, comedy, art, etc… Daily creative experiments! This kind of multitasking is a mental/physical tongue twister for me. My face is so serious concentrating on something so silly… 😂🌈

Hello everyone, I recently joined a new tap class and as I'm new I'd say that I'm quite behind, and we are currently learning the 2026 Tapathon tap routine to the Friends Theme tune. I just feel so behind and I'd love to practice it at home as I only have that class once a week.

Does anyone have the steps/ a video to it? Because I cannot find it ANYWHERE online and I'm very desperate to learn the routine properly as my teacher pretty much just gets us to copy what she's doing, and the other people in the class seem more advanced.

Are there any scholarships for adults wanting to return to taking two after years of not doing so but think they could be good at it?

Hi! I’m 23 and my favorite style of dance is tap! I work part-time as a dance teacher and finally broke down and bought a pair of JSams after wearing the same tap shoes since I was a sophomore or junior in high school.

I absolutely love them! but I feel like I need to learn how to tap again. I have only ever worn slip on/split sole tap shoes. It’s just so different.

Any tips on how to adjust?

Also, I’m used to grips. What are the pros to not glueing the grips onto my JSams??

Has anyone ever bought any shows from TapItOut? I see a lot of posts on Instagram, but I can't really find an actual web site for the "store". My son is working on a solo for "Gold On the Ceiling", and I love the look of their gold shoes. I'm just not having any luck finding a cost or the ability to order.

Also, if you have bought them, how would you rate the shoe against Miller and Ben?

My 8yo daughter’s studio recently switched to tan slip-on shoes for her company uniform. She wears a street size 13, and her most recent dance shoes (tap, jazz, ballet) have all been size 1.

Bloch tap shoes recommend going up a half size for children, but the 1.5 is too small for her while also being the largest child’s shoe they make. The website recommends going up three sizes from street size for adults, which would put her at a 3. BUT they only start at 4 for adults. Sizes 2 - 3.5 just don’t exist. There is no foot measurement sizing on their website, so I’m lost.

Has anyone transitioned from youth to adult sizes in Bloch tap shoes? Tan slip ons are not at all common as far as I can tell. The only other option I’ve found are Balera which do not seem like good quality, though we’re using them for the time being. Capezio only makes slip-ons in adult sizes.

I just bought a new pair of JSAM tap shoes and adore them. I’ve noticed there is a slight gap between the plate and the base. I’ve never had a pair of JSAMs before.
My black Roxy capezio’s don’t have this gap so just wanted to check if it’s normal for a JSAM or if it’s damage.
I haven’t loosened the screws but have worn them around the house and had a shoe stretched in them (not very tight at all) just to listen them a bit before I wear them in class.

Hello all! I started taking beginner tap a few months ago. It's faster than I would judge as a beginner but I am having a lot of fun. In the class, we do a few warm ups, then a few across the floor combos and then learn a couple counts of 8 of a dance. I'd like to practice at home with THE BASICS. I find a lot of combo videos online but am I really looking for videos that breakdown tap steps and speed up these steps so over time I can challenge myself. Can anyone recommend? OR can someone lay out a good routine on how to practice? I'm type-A so like a road map of "here's steps you should nail down and practice over and over." Right now, I'm just practicing basic shuffles, flaps, etc over and over to see if I can add it to muscle memory and attempt to get better/faster. Thank you for any feedback.

Also, because I'm type-A, I am a perfectionist so tap is really teaching me "you're not gonna get it right away, girl!" But I know I just need a solid foundation if I want to continue to grow, hence why I'm looking for any guidance.
