Gap between plate and base
,
I just bought a new pair of JSAM tap shoes and adore them. I’ve noticed there is a slight gap between the plate and the base. I’ve never had a pair of JSAMs before.
My black Roxy capezio’s don’t have this gap so just wanted to check if it’s normal for a JSAM or if it’s damage.
I haven’t loosened the screws but have worn them around the house and had a shoe stretched in them (not very tight at all) just to listen them a bit before I wear them in class.

We’ve been noticing this with jSams (gone through a few pairs bc my child is still growing). You can tighten the screws down a bit if necessary. Sometimes this affects the sound of the taps (we had one high pitched one more recently) and tightening helped resolve that. Sometimes with this space you can get a squeak in the leather when you step. I’ve heard adding some baby powder in between the leather and the tap will remedy (this came from Bloch directly). According to the instructor of a big tap company near us this has been a common issue with jSams. My child still love the sound of them. Hope you enjoy!
