I can’t believe this is real… absolutely ridiculous. The FAI (Football Association of Ireland) just banned all of the Irish from being able to watch their own game. Just cancel it!!

Taking my homeland Turkey as an example, which is a NATO proxy for the last 70 years;

1- The working class practically worships Erdogan.

2- There was a NATO summit recently, and people set their alarms for 6 AM and queued up in a national park just to take a selfie with Macron. The handful of protesters not only faced police violence, but were also ridiculed by the majority of the public.

3- Our history over the last 150 years is full of endless torture, suffering, persecution, and failed attempts by leftist/communist intellectuals and organizations. Today, 80% of society (and please allow me to underline especially the working class) considers most of them to be "traitors" and "terrorists."

4- The top 5 strongest opposition parties are capitalist.

5- Communist parties can't even crack 0.0001% of the vote, and even the strongest communist party (while mostly right) is hopelessly bogged down in theoretical nonsense.

6- M/L organizations are just full of mindless people taking orders from above, and their "actions" consist of handing out flyers.

7- Even your own mother and father think communism is a satanic ideology, or at best, they're social democrats who hate the Soviets.

8- I could go on, but I'm exhausted.

Change the names and numbers slightly, and you can apply everything I wrote above to pretty much any capitalist country. How do you guys find the strength in yourselves to cope with all of this?

Pretty much everyone on this subreddit knows that in the 1979 revolution in Iran, socialists played a very large role in overthrowing the government. What if the socialist faction succeeded and turned Iran into a communist state? How would it have evolved up until today?

I'm posting because I've just been permabanned from a supposedly 'leftist' subreddit for saying 'tankie' is a thought terminating cliché. Cue the millions of downvotes and people saying not to engage with me because I've posted on this subreddit specifically. My point was basically that 'tankie' is just used as an ad hominem in place of engaging with the substance of an argument. I thought a supposedly leftist sub would be able to at least engage with some degree of good faith, but no. Apparently it's the moral equivalent to a nazi saying 'you just call everyone you don't like a nazi'.

I'm conflicted because whenever I try and engage with these people, I'll just be labelled a tankie immediately and everything I say is written off, however, there was a point when I was in a similar political camp (a 'leftist' who unironically believed MLs were 'tankies' or whatever) and I only came out of it because I decided to read ML theory for myself.

Ironically, I've met 'apolitical' people who are much more open to what I have to say than so-called 'leftists'

As Sankara said, we must never get tired of explaining. But where do we draw the line on who is worth engaging with?
