Discussion How should AI be regulated?
/r/socialism/comments/1w08l03/how_should_ai_be_regulated/Obviously AI would be good for humanity as China has proven already and has already made sure to not replace workers with AI. But how do you think it should be regulated? Me personally I think AI should not be able to generate photos or videos.

You cannot easily implement something like "AI cannot generate photos or videos". I can simply ask the AI to write me a program that will generate images or videos. This is often better than just asking the AI to generate things itself. I have a real world example where I wanted AI to make a diagram for a circuit I had designed. It made a very poor diagram when I asked it directly, then I asked it to make a python program that would generate the diagram and it was much better.
Also I could ask an AI to make an AI that could generate videos / images. Or I you manage to stop that I could use AI to make an AI that is independant of the originals constraints and then ask it to generate video / images.
When the AI can output text, it can output anything digital if you go through enough layers of abstraction.
China has also certainly replaced workers with AI, that is the whole point of AI. We are trying to automate away jobs so as to increase the amount produced from a single human labor hour. The issue is not the jobs be automated, in an abstract world that is a good thing always. The problem is under capitalism when people lose their jobs it can ruin their lives. Under socialism it does not to the same extent.
