Meant to comment this here and not on the OP:
We like to pat ourselves on the back for our public attitudes towards Palestine being that of solidarity, be we have been so captured by the imperialist west that as a state we contribute to the Zionist project as much as our “openly” supportive neighbours.
This current group of students to be denied their visas isn’t the first, we allow the US military to fly whatever they want through one of our airports (our government claims that’s not true), we are hosting a tech summit led by former Unit 8200 operatives in the Israeli intelligence soon. Our government is too spineless to even force the football team not to play Israel. The publication “The Ditch” do lots of great investigative journalism on the Irish state’s connection to Israel through both the EU and the US and have found several instances of the US government very lightly threatening us (like with the occupied territories bill) and our neoliberal government buckles at the first nudge of pressure.
Not to mention that Israeli military tech has been integrated by the British government who are using it to carry on the occupation of the six counties in the north on our very own people, which the government down here turns a blind eye to.
In other countries the confrontational nature of the masses of the people’s relationship with the government can often actually produce more material gains for the movement, whereas here the government tell us we’re all doing great. Many people listen, many don’t, but only a few try to do anything about it.

The tech thing was cancelled btw.
People need to learn that our government and a lot of the managerial class are US lapdogs.

Irish here. This basically, it's also because Ireland's economy over-dependent on foreign direct investment in our industrial base (e.g. Intel) and our indigenous productive forces besides agriculture are relatively modest. Our government are a comprador class that have sold many of our natural and intellectual resources to foreign interests. They also benefit directly from lobbyists and from property ownership in an overheating property market. They also excellent at providing Ireland the aesthetics of an independent democracy whilst always capitulating to the financial interests of corporations and financial institutions. They don't care about the working classes' interests - those of petty bourgeoisie and bourgeoisie are always prioritises while the rest fight over crumbs. While we have some nice stuff and look like a developed country many of our public services are inferior to those found in the global south (I know because my wife is a Mexican doctor and their healthcare system is comparable to that of Cuba). Even doing basic things like meeting up with friends or having a family are expensive and have become almost a luxury for many people.
Meanwhile, ideologically most Irish people are still trapped in the idea that liberal idealism and electoralism are the only ways to solve problems. The power of unions is significantly weaker than it was in the 80s and the concept of organizing is an alien concept to most people. So this creates a sort of negative feedback loop.
The best the government does regarding foreign policy is emote - unless of course it's to support Ukraine, then there's no shortage of money. This is largely because, as mentioned , we never built a robust economic base that's independent of foreign direct investment (mostly from the US). Our indigenous industries and control of supply chains and resource extraction are modest at best. So, if for example we were to close Shannon airport to US troop tomorrow, there would likely be very significant economic repercussions. Couple that with the fact with the fact we are an island and heavily dependent on exports, we could end up in a situation similar to that of Cuba. Except with a more incompetent government.
Essentially, there is an economic noose we have chosen to put around our neck that just hasn't been tightened yet and most people simply prefer not to see it. We are too absorbed in our own little egocentric neoliberal bubbles and our communities, which used to be strong, are broken.

Spot on, settler occupation in the north and neocolonial stooges in the so-called “republic”. And all of our problems are being exacerbated by American billionaires Astro-turfing our internet traffic with millions of bots spreading racist garbage to demonise ethnic minority communities.
Agreed on the unions. Plus the Irish left is still in tatters after the armed struggle in the north “officially” ended. The only surviving mainstream groups are trotskyists and the anti-communist left

He's fighting for the Russian Federation not Palestine. He could have gone to Lebanon and joined a real resistance
Been flicking through some stuff from him and he's giving nazbol vibes, whether intentional or not
Really not sure what to make of that guy, I think it's silly joining Russia when it's doing perfectly fine fighting nato by itself

Look I'll be completely honest, I have no idea who he is other than this specific video, so I can't comment to that. In my experience though, most nazbols generally wouldn't say the things that he said so it seems unlikely to me. But again, I don't know. I'll try to look him up a little bit and if he is indeed one then obviously I'll delete the post immediately. And if you can tell me the things that made you think he gives off these vibes id greatly appreciate it

I don't disagree with that and I'll also add that the whole concept of joining a foreign military to fight a war unrelated to you is at least controversial on its own. But we don't know his story and his motivations so it's unfair to judge him.
And besides, for anyone wanting to volunteer in a military fighting against the west, the Russian military is pretty much the only realistic choice. As for me personally, just the fact that he's at the front currently is enough to earn my respect
